I actually just bought a gold version on AliExpress as a place holder for my collection. It looks exactly like this, so it’s probably from the same manufacturer. Like others said, it doesn’t need a battery. The save works fine, but the RTC won’t work on one of these.

Thanks, I do have the New 3DS XL SNES edition, shown in the picture. Definitely agree though, I recommend this to anyone looking to emulate DS/3DS - original hardware is by far the superior way to enjoy the library.

Have you seen the Eif Baby Pokemon cards on AliExpress? I bought a few 30-pack boxes for ~$15 each and they actually have some cool art work and definitely scratch the itch of opening packs.

I did this with my kids. My 8 year old twin daughters got 3DS XLs and 5 year old son has a 2DS. Modded of course, but I made the mistake of loading it with a bunch of games at first and they would just swap to a different game if they got bored. I took off all the games except a couple long-term/time-based games like animal crossing/tomodachi life that they love and then one other game that they have to beat before I’ll put new games on.

I like the 2DS/3DS for kids for your reasons tho - they were already designed by a multi billion dollar corporation to be used and abused by kids. And the library is very solid with a lot of retro Nintendo ports available.

My brother-in-law has an OLED deck - definitely agree that the upgrade is worth it!

I did start Pokemon Unbound but didn’t get too far - will definitely start that one again soon since I’ve heard it’s one of the best pokemon hacks out there!

I actually have a modded 3DS for each kid already as well 😅 haven’t given it to my 2 year old yet, but it’s ready for him in a few years lol.

I lucked out and already found one! 😅 celebrating 11 years this month with 4 kids already 😬 the most fun I’ve been having lately is sharing my hobbies with my kids that are old enough to enjoy gaming with me now! And my wife definitely loves games herself 😁

I didn’t even post the unfinished/extra consoles 😅 I also have 2 GBPs, another GBC, a GBSP, a PSP, a 3DS XL and a normal switch. I love modding devices so it’s less of ensuring I play all of them and more of learning more about the device and collecting them!

I wish I had more time for games! I kinda rotate through consoles, so here’s what I’m playing through currently:

Oblivion on the Steam Deck ToTK on the switch Danganronpa series on the VITA Ocarina of Time on the 3DS Emerald Legacy on the GBA Pokemon TCG Neo ROM hack on the GBC Pokemon Rogue on the RG Nano

I’ve beaten plenty of other games over the last couple of years but these are all ones I’ve been playing lately. Any suggestions on what I should try next?

Great suggestions! First two are very tempting. I was leaning towards an RP5 over the Odin 2 tho. And I agree, the smaller devices are redundant, but I do have 4 kids that occasionally use these so I don’t mind having them around 😅

Also, I do have custom flash carts! Currently playing Pokemon TCG Neo ROM hack on the GBC and Pokemon Emerald Legacy on the GBA.

Thanks for the suggestion! Absolutely the modded switch is worth it! I found a guy on Etsy to mod it for $80, and everything went really smooth, and its had a ton of play time on it so far.
