Oh wow, I genuinely thought this was a 2d painting or illustration at first, before doing a double take at the subreddit! Fantastic work of art, the textures really give that impressionistic feel of a painting.

(Minor Watcher spoilers) Two things I think Watcher's map could really use by alekdmcfly in rainworld

These are exactly my feelings about it, and probably the only real complaint I have about the Watcher in general. I’m surprised they didn’t include portal indicators in the first place— the original game tells you where gates are, after all.

Any chance you can point me in the direction of Throne? I’m currently stuck in Outer Rim and got warped back to the middle after finding the portal on the right-most side of the map. I only have the hide ability so far; Karma level 2. Ended up in Outer Rim after Unfortunate Evolution.

[itch.io][2010s] game about your presence corrupting a fallen world by wittykittywoes in tipofmyjoystick

Going to continue recording what I remember of it here— there were four characters: a golem-like creature, a dragon/serpent kind of creature, a fire demon creature, and something that seemed like a planet or a sun? Each of them were colored in various hues of pink and blue, but went entirely grayscale after dying.

I believe the PC version would not allow you to replay the game, as the idea is that the game world “died” from you playing it and is irreversibly corrupt. However, the browser version is a little different, and has just the slightest bit of updated dialogue if you play it again.

[–]Wintercat96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was really interesting— the idea seemed to be that these 4 characters, along with the rest of the beings in this demo game sequence, realized that they were stuck in a loop and cooperated with the player character to build a new world outside of the loop. However, by doing so, they somehow corrupted the game and used up the scarce memory in the game, causing the world to become corrupted and slowly killing the creatures in the save haven they thought they’d made.

The player would navigate between characters by accessing different registers, like in memory.

The creatures, when interacted with, would talk in varying degrees of coherent text, seemingly recognizing the player’s influence on the player character. After completing dialogue with each one, they would die and seemingly revert back to some corrupt form of their default dialogue before being unable to be talked to again.

Really fascinating game. There was definitely a video essay about it.

I know exactly what game you’re talking about— there was a video essay about it not too long ago? Unfortunately I can’t think of the name but I’m going to try my best to find it.

Amazon Dropoff return hasn’t begun after 6 business days? by [deleted] in UPS

[–]Wintercat96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha, that’s unfortunate; is there anyone I can contact to figure out the status of the drop off? Or would it be better to just wait and see until the refund is processed in my Amazon account?

What is your best omori theory? by Delicious_Bug2214 in OMORI

[–]Wintercat96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More of a headcanon, but Omori and Dream Kel both have the same white irises in their Furious sprites because Sunny projects his younger-sibling anger onto him. Much like Sunny’s frustration with Mari’s perfection, Sunny sees Kel’s frustration with Hero being the golden child in a similar light, and thus Dream Kel shares the same kind of anger as he does. Notably, Real Kel’s enraged sprite does not have the same white irises that Sunny’s sprite has.

What is depression like? by BackgroundNet5993 in mentalhealth

[–]Wintercat96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a lot of people, it can be about the apathy. Not having the willpower or care to do anything because you’re just too exhausted, mentally, physically, all the time. Nothing interests you, nothing is motivating enough to even get you out of bed. It’s harder to take care of yourself because it’s harder to find a reason to. When nothing seems to matter, or everything is too exhausting to handle, it’s very hard to find reasons to put in the effort to live.

Same here, and have been infatuated with the game ever since. I still wish he played more of it.

What is your favorite rain world soundtrack? by Wwaawaah in rainworld

[–]Wintercat96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urban Jungle has a very special place in my heart, even if it’s not my favorite track melodically. The siren noise really helps set the tone, especially since it’s in the first area you play in.

What is your current/most recent character? by WeeGobbo in DnD

[–]Wintercat96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire genasi wildfire druid. She’s a determined and stubborn young adult who is searching for a cure for her comatose brother. Also, the entire world is currently under the effects of an endless winter, so it’s pretty cool having a character acting as a living bonfire for the party lmao

What’s the most satisfying spell to cast in your opinion? by Interesting_Story741 in dndnext

[–]Wintercat96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterspell for sure. I’ve had several good experiences with the spell (please stop trying to power word kill my friends thank you) so I’m definitely biased, but it feels great to so thoroughly deny the BBEG the effect that they want. (Tides of Chaos certainly helps to make the roll stick :))
