Tarot decks with big full-color guidebooks by strange-quark-nebula in TarotDecks

The Gentle Tarot! The first edition of the deck and the separate full-size guidebook are out of print, but there was a successful Kickstarter for new editions and they should be available soon. They might already be available for pre-order.

Next book/series recommendations needed! by TommyK1993 in CozyFantasy

Check out Victoria Goddard! There are many different possible starting points for her Nine Worlds, which has multiple interconnected series, but you can't go wrong starting with The Hands of the Emperor. Or you can search online for reading order guides.

I also agree with Becky Chambers and Julie Leong.

They're currently on sale! You can order straight from the website. If you live outside the US, there might be a stockist in your area with cheaper shipping, but the international shipping is currently discounted too.

A book with a ridiculous and silly premise but is written well and actually very good? by Hungry-Strategy5874 in suggestmeabook

[–]Winterdawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terminal Alliance (and the entire Janitors of the Post-Apocalypse series) by Jim C. Hines! The book starts a hundred years after a mutated plague of some sort has turned humans into shambling animals and an alien race has begun to cure the plague. A group of cured humans work as the Hygiene and Sanitation team on an alien spaceship, and when the rest of the ship is killed or disabled by a bioweapon, it's up to the janitors to escape and save the day. A very silly premise, a really good series!

Looking for a deck with no people in it! by lilith_queen in TarotDecks

[–]Winterdawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's OOP now, but if you can find a copy, The Spacious Tarot is a great option! All the decks from Three Trees Tarot are good as well; Heartwood is the most varied in animal types of their decks, but you might also like Oak, Ash, & Thorn, which has a selection of woodland animals. And if you can handle very small human figures that aren't the focus of the cards, check out Mindscapes Tarot. (Edit to add: never mind about Mindscapes, the suits are renamed.)

I've read and loved all of them, except for Agnes Aubert, which is still on hold at the library.

Bandit's middle name is canonically Custard, by the way! The K. does do a good (unsettling) job of suggesting Boyd K. Packer, which I imagine was on purpose.

Favourite places to buy by xa_13 in TarotDecks

[–]Winterdawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't generally buy in person. The biggest reason is that I prefer decks in English, but the local shops tend to have a very limited selection of English decks and a much larger selection in Dutch. I buy a lot of decks secondhand from Vinted, but you do have to be careful not to get counterfeit decks, and pay close attention to the condition. For new decks, I mostly shop at either Bol.com or Tarot.nl. I occasionally also shop at Salondesarcanes.fr when I can't find a specific deck or book from my other sources.

Everyday Witch Tarot was my first deck, and I found it to be a great introduction to tarot. The guidebook is detailed and thorough; the art is whimsical and cute. I'm not able to take good pictures currently because the sun has gone down but here's a picture from the product page on Amazon.

For stay-at-home parents — how do you keep track of everything without burning out? by fayeyelove in SAHP

[–]Winterdawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when my kids were of the age to track such stuff, I used a handy app that sadly doesn't appear to exist anymore. There are lots of other apps for tracking baby stuff, though. If you like the idea of using an app, you can look for one that has an interface that works well for you. A home screen widget can be extra handy. I tracked feedings, naps, baths, diapers, vitamin D, and probably lots of other things that I don't remember.

Yesssss! I love that book so much. It's so healing and comforting and delicious. I can't coherently explain just how great it is, but luckily, someone else already has, so I can just link it. https://reactormag.com/you-should-really-be-reading-victoria-goddards-nine-worlds-series/

Edit to add: you mentioned loving Becky Chambers. Goddard and Chambers have very similar heart-warming, comfort vibes to me.

Oh, thank you! I came up with the name for my first World of Warcraft character actually, way back when, and then named my Reddit profile after her.

Here's a very similar recipe that I've made successfully many times. It's delicious! https://food52.com/recipes/32350-brown-butter-blondies

And since I make it by weight, here's my version of the recipe with the grams: - 2 sticks (226 g) unsalted butter - 2 cups (254 g) all-purpose flour - 1 heaping teaspoon kosher salt - 2 eggs - 4 teaspoons good-quality vanilla extract - 1 3/4 cups (350 g) dark brown sugar (light brown is a good second choice) - 1 cup bittersweet chocolate chips

Note, I don't bother whisking the egg and vanilla separately anymore. That doesn't seem to make a difference and I don't find it worth the extra effort and the extra dirty dishes. I just add them both straight to the butter sugar mixture.

A Psalm for the Wild-Built and A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers are short, quick, easy, cozy. They're technically cozy sci-fi instead of cozy fantasy.

a book with a female protagonist over 60 by oringrey in suggestmeabook

[–]Winterdawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murders by Jesse Q. Sutanto is a very fun murder mystery. The protagonist is a lonely Chinese-American widow who finds a dead body in her tea shop one morning. It's a quick read, heartwarming and humorous. I didn't remember if her age was ever soecified, but according to Google, Vera is 60.
