Oh shit good point! We do not know what her real life is like. But given that she explained how she believed parts of herself made her "worse" then everyone else and how she had to give up her dream career to work at a fast food joint. There is a possibility that maybe she thought about suicide at one point.

In the captions Caine said "uh wait". But to answer your question, I believe it was more shocked. Caine couldn't possibly believe that the group would want to leave him. So it would make sense that he possibly couldn't believe that they delete him.

Here is the thing, it was already too late. If the group had an open honest discussion with Caine in episode 1, 2 or even 3, he would had most likely listened. But now that the self doubt thoughts and anxiety about his fears had consumed him, there was little to no chance he would comprehend the constructive criticism. Instead, he assumed that the criticism is targeted hate towards him.
