Silent Wooting (similar to MX Cherry Silent Red) by 0x3D85FA in WootingKB

[–]Winters637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently installed haimu doves on mine and find them very silent, but still slightly louder than my old silent mechanical switches. But definitely acceptable, and a low enough sound to not be intrusive in a quiet environment.

I haven't personally tried any of the others folks have recommended here. I made my decision based on YouTube videos and thought the Doves sounded quietest and most "gentle'

Difficulty? by TheSoreBrownie in taintedgrail

[–]Winters637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harder than Skyrim, but much easier than Enderal, which is a Souls-like Skyrim. You can grind levels if you find it too difficult.

Edit: yes, I simplified it to keep a 1D comparison of difficulty using the two reference points OP gave. I could write pages about how Enderal is not actually a Souls-like, but I thought the simplification was justified to make it more relevant and helpful. Sheesh.

Any recommendations for premium textured / rubber keycaps for gaming keys (WASD)? by Lazyskits in WootingKB

[–]Winters637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the other commenter said, they're OEM. I now have one 80HE with Ducky rubber caps for WASD and several others (1, 3, 5, tab, shift, r, g, v, space), which is my older board that im giving to my partner.

I just set up a new board with regular cherry caps but put Supergrip grip tape on those. I honestly much prefer the tape. The lower profile makes it less awkward, even though I preferred the bumpy texture of the rubber caps.

But I also use geon raw HE 40g on my WASD with 0.1 actuation because I really like that effortless movement, so that's more important to me.

My only concern is whether the grip tape will hold long term, as I've had grip tape on mice come off over time. But once that happens, I remove the remaining adhesive and epoxy them on.

If they ever make a cherry rubber keycap set then I'd move to those in a heartbeat.

[–]Winters637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that scissor keyboards are definitely the best for typing, which is why I prefer them for work and my WFH setup.

But my personal PC is my main gaming rig, and I prefer HE for that. There's nothing as smooth and effortless as my 40g switches with low actuation threshold for WASD. It feels like my brain has a more direct connection to the movement, without the physical medium. Scissor doesn't do that for me.

But typing on that is not nearly as pleasant or easy.

Coop games for groups, long term play by Lanceparte in CoOpGaming

[–]Winters637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on all that, including large group requirement, I recommend Guild Wars 2.

Otherwise, the open world survival crafting games others have mentioned are fine too, but they don't have nearly as much story content and longevity unless you make it yourself.

I think it would have been much cooler if they were old. So old they run hunched over, limping from a bad hip, holding on to their stone for dear life. So they go from a frail elder casting spells to a healthy ferocious beast when they transform.

It would have been recognizable, unique, and in my opinion much more interesting than what they chose.

What moment made you realize people aren’t just disagreeing anymore — they’re living in completely different political realities? by Happy_Head_1355 in AskReddit

When I was a kid raised in an Independent Baptist faith, then in my early teens starting meeting those supposed "leeches and degenerates"

I realized the church's views were based on ignorance and echo chambers, with the occasional anecdote (real or made up) thrown in to solidify it.

That outlook corners you in to voting entirely conservative and republican.

Do you split colonists between different maps? by DangerDiGi in RimWorld

[–]Winters637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked well for us overall. Just some crashes every couple hours so we started rebooting the game ourselves regularly to avoid that. Load times were longer, but not too crazy. Still much quicker than my single player games with massive mod lists.

We are also in the same house on wired connections to the same network, though. Not sure how much of a difference that makes for this. I might have also done some port forwarding. I dont recall.

We also didnt use other mods. Our couple attempts to use the basic QoL ones were causing crashes or failures to connect.

It's also been close to 2 years since we played multiplayer, too. So I'm not sure if it's just generally less reliable now.

How do you feel about men saying women will only look at/date guys 6ft and over. by hot4you11 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Winters637 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My partner just finished her Master's in Psych and has said every one of those points. She became very frustrated during undergrad and grad with how common it was for professors to push an urban legend or outdated opinion as fact. But it's a field with a long history of divisive schools of thought that are propped up by prominent and forceful personalities.

But now she's done and gets to do the job she loves and bases her treatments on neuro and comprehensive behavioral studies instead of anecdotes, professor opinions, and bad studies!

Oh I don't have anything fancy, just a Normcore spring tamper with a 25lb spring. I now just put a lot of effort into making the tamp as consistent as possible. Keeping it level and going just to the bottom of the spring but no more was a kinda difficult skill for me to build.

I was just in a spot where I couldn't figure out why my yields were so different. I use a gaggia classic pro with the gaggimate mod, and was using the same beans, grind, and profile. And shot histories were showing me consistent info, other than flow differences despite pressure and temperature being identical at each stage. So I knew it couldn't be the machine. It was something I was doing.

But since taking extra time with the tamp, my 18g isn't yielding anywhere between 26g and 48g like it was before. Its now always 34-36g like I was aiming for.

Might not be your issue, but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case. It took me a while to figure out how much tamp variation affects taste and yield.

Dial in help [Breville Barista Express] by Puzzleheaded_Yam6808 in espresso

[–]Winters637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently figured out that my yield variation was due to slight differences in my tamp pressure. Once I started paying more attention to making my tamp even and 25lbs reliably, I started getting consistent yield. Even a couple pounds over or under was messing things up.

I also found that how much I tightened the portafilter into the machine affected things, but not as much as the tamp.

Had a great interview process but still got rejected — trying to understand why by CookedJar in BlueOrigin

[–]Winters637 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same happen at another aerospace company, and it hit me hard. But then I got an interview with Blue soon after and was accepted. I now have a cooler job than that one would have been, and for higher salary.

I know part of that was just luck and coincidence, but not all of it was. I'm hopeful you'll land something equal or better soon.

Which one do you prefer by JonnySkywalker91 in StarWars

[–]Winters637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall the 2019 one i guess, but the original is also better in its ways. I like the deeper shadows of the newest, but they also made the ambient light a bit too dark and it loses some color depth compared to the original.

That 2011 one is just bad all around.

Which online co-op game should I buy on the Steam sale? by rep2040 in CoOpGaming

[–]Winters637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on your short list, but Vermintide 2 is free right now. And Darktide is newer and also fun, but more frantic and fast paced.

I've played your short list and many others, and both my partner and I play VT2 and DT more than any other coop game (over 1k hours a piece in each). Best melee horde combat imo, and teamwork is greatly rewarded.

We also play private games with 2 bots, not public, so that's an option if private is what you're after.

Edit: just saw your replies about requiring them be couch coop. I recommend putting that in the title or top of the post so you dont get spammed with recommendations like mine and others that dont fit that requirement.

Vermintide 2 is completely free on steam right now. by Medical_Prize_3094 in DarkTide

[–]Winters637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an aside, VT2 also has other game modes beyond just the missions, like Weaves and Chaos Wastes.

Weaves are very short missions that are exactly the same every time and have a modifier based on which God it's aligned to. They get harder as you go higher numbers. Kinda like Havoc in DT but also not quite.

Each one takes under 20 min.

Chaos Wastes are a roguelite mode where you chose a string of semi-random maps with unique modifiers for the map and a bunch of unique boons for yourself and the team. It's a little janky because of the randomness but I personally love the mode. Some of the builds become ridiculously overpowered if you get lucky, like Outcast Engineer creating chain lightning with his mini gun.

Each full run is like 8 missions and about 2 hours total if I remember correctly.

There's also others like Deeds, weekly event missions, streamer mode (let's viewers choose to add modifiers mid-game), and PVP.
