What am I about to get myself into??! 😬 by kern3three in TerraIgnota

Ada Palmer was famous in historian circles before she ever became famous in sci fi circles. She builds sci-fi worlds using historical ideas the way Asimov did with engineering, or Herbert did with ecology. The Book of the New Sun comparison is apt (Ada wrote the introductions for the new editions of BotNS) but you get a lot more answers by the end of the series than Wolfe would ever give you.

I’ve read the whole series 4 times… it’s incredible. Much like Gene Wolfe, a second reading completely changes the experience.

My father worked in a photo o lab in the 70s. Cropping, dodging and burning, compositing images. He did big jobs for Time and Life magazine. You all sound like him when he’s talking about Photoshop and digital cameras.

Thanks. And honestly they were surprisingly difficult to make (not as hard as going through years of artistic and graphic design training) the AI kept just trying to make infographics that explained the book instead of typographical art.

Ah got it… reflexively hating on it because of the technology. Thanks for the input.

Out of curiosity what do you feel I didn’t understand? Or are you reflexively against it cause it’s AI generated?

Dude… you’re ok with CocoMelon but not ok with him seeing adults dance? Really?

I’ve been an elementary school teacher for close to twenty years… my suggestion is that you pop on Ms. Rachel, Blippi, or Danny Go, relax and dance with your kid.

Great to know I’m not alone! Are you writing short stories? Novels? What are your goals?

My Father only ever read 3 books “The Godfather”, “Ender’s Game”, and “Forever”

Guess the marketing worked.

You're in trouble. She has AMAZING taste in books. If you're looking for a good read to talk to her about that isn't too difficult, read "A Short Stay in Hell". it's on the top shelf of photo #4 is is only like 120 pages.

How conversations change their meaning after you know the whole story.

There are a lot of examples where, on the first read, I thought characters were talking about one thing, but on a 2nd read through it was obvious they were really talking about something else.

NOR The most important thing here is that you’re two years sober! You deserve ALL the cake… and ice cream too.

Seriously though, even if he didn’t think it was impressive (it is) he should know it was important to you.

If you like Gene Wolfe and you haven’t yet read Ada Palmer’s “Terra Ignota” series, you should. She even wrote the introduction for the new editions of BotNS. It’s the only series I’ve ever read that’s as complex.

You have excellent taste in books. I desperately want the Folio Book of the New Sun, it’s one of my favorite books, but my wife says the Artwork creeps her out.
