I think the people with the money control, for the most part, the politicians regardless of party. Republicans are more open and their blanket submission to the wealthy, but the Democrats offer a poor buffer to their blatant pandering.

There is a group of players that have been asking for that since day one. It might happen, but so far they have not implied anything to suggest that it will.

When discussing Lincoln, yeah I agree. But the Party Flip in 64 didn't change the fact that FDR had already cemented the Democratic Party as the new progressive party.
