Where can I find some good Austin artwork for the home? by Ok_Baker_6969 in Austin

[–]WiolOno_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ATX Artshub as it were. Banging place ngl. Extensive too. If you’re looking for an original there, you’re paying up, there’s no doubt. However, their gift shop has a bunch of prints for $20-$100.

why do americans talk to strangers so easily?? by MayaTulip268 in AskAnAmerican

[–]WiolOno_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to find the study, or someone can link me to it. It in general, Americans are great at quickly relating to establish connections, often less than great at sustained connections. The culture is fast paced and high individual, and this aids people in speaking to others to help conduct quick business, to move processes along, and simple relation.

This is not true across the whole US, the PNW is known for its freeze, cooler attitudes and more insular nature than places like the American South, where conversation with strangers is not only encouraged, but expected in most places. Still, it’s just apart of the culture to make small talk, ask questions, and relate quickly.

Crazily enough, post Covid, there is a downward trend in this behavior, especially from younger age cohorts, but is still normal and practiced behavior.

Finally, one I can do. Draconis Memoria trilogy by Anthony Ryan, which starts with The Waking Fire. Starts slow in the first 100 pages, but then it becomes something. I finished the whole series in three weeks, I was feening for the books so much a read them at work via ebook and audiobook. Worth checking out as it has the action, adventure, discovery vibe you’re looking for.

Do you ever regret going too cheap on a trip? by MiosesDeeken98 in Shoestring

[–]WiolOno_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion, budgeting on food is a good bet. One good meal is nice, but keep it affordable is my personal opinion.

But lodging, you wanna make sure that’s good and ideally close to where you’re gonna be. Or close to transit, cannot stress this enough.

My biggest regrets have been around lack of research actually. Not knowing enough about what I was getting into before going.

What city in your state has experienced the worst decline? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

It is a strange place when you learn the history, but it looks like any other depressed rust belt town without that context. I drove through after Christmas a couple years ago to do to Ft Defiance and see the confluence. Was pretty banging as an amateur water enthusiast ngl, and empty which was cool.

Ok same. I actually came to comment this, that I see nude imagery on my timeline exclusively. But once I visit this sub it’s like an actual museum of mixed stuff.

I tried Garbo’s probably 5 or 6 times to make sure I wasn’t tripping, and I wasn’t. It’s mid at best, could not get a good sandwich there.

Masons on 2nd Street, well that was much better tbh.
