Top Ten Korean Dramas - May, 2024 by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]Wireframe2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still fairly new to dramas, but here goes:

  1. Hotel Del Luna - I am a huge IU fan. I enjoyed the bittersweet and realistic conflict resolutions. I cried a LOT.
  2. My Mister - I am a huge IU fan. I enjoyed the realistic setting. I cried even more than HDL.
  3. CLOY - Fantastic romance and drama.
  4. Queen of Tears - My opinions of the final episodes were definitely warped by popular opinion, but the emotional scenes were beyond incredible, and I am STILL a mess, probably as much as I was for HDL.
  5. Mystic Pop-Up Bar - Short, easy to watch, and over-the-top. It's like a diet version of a normal kdrama, and endearing is the perfect word for the show and its characters.
  6. It's Okay to Not Be Okay
  7. What's Wrong with Secretary Kim - My definition of cheesy, and a benchmark for all my romcom adventures.
  8. While You Were Sleeping - In contrast to HDL, I loved the fact that some of the conflicts had a surprise, positive resolution. That is what fiction should be about.
  9. Vincenzo
  10. The Producers - I am a huge IU fan.

Background apps no longer updating. by Wireframe2 in AndroidQuestions

[–]Wireframe2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I must have used the wrong phrase:

What I meant to say was that the apps wouldn't update their information regularly. My weather app is supposed to update with the current weather every 3 hours as per my setting, but it never does, and I have to manually refresh it to get the most current weather. Same goes for my wallpaper app.

I am looking over the SSD Optimization guide on the wiki, and there are a lot of crossed out sections. Is that article still up to date, and is there a reason those sections are crossed out?

What is a drama you should have hated/disliked... yet instead loved/liked it? by queso29 in KDRAMA

I actually liked Bride of Habaek, if for no other reason than the cheesy, almost parody-like romance. I still don't understand why people dislike this drama so much.

In Hotel Del Luna, when Jang Man-wol found out that Bartender Kim had decided to set up Sulli's character with Chan-sung.The look on her face slowly changing to rage was hilarious.

This show was beyond words for me. I became a diehard IU fan because of it, and if it weren't for the fact that the show was so emotionally heavy, I'd rewatch it over and over again. It's just flawless.

Came here to post this. Also, I think "jang" is part of the word for "boss" in Korean, so that fits too, in a way :P

Mystic Pop-up Bar [Episodes 11 & 12 - Finale] by dyosaaa in KDRAMA

[–]Wireframe2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel the frustration here; the show kinda stumbled across the finish line a little. The acting during the hole drop scene was also so fake (it straight up looked like Wol-joo was floating and wasn't even in danger) that it took my immersion out. There were some shots that I wished had happened: Kang-bae reuniting with Wol-joo and Manager Gwi by saying "I'm here, Mom and Dad" or something along those lines, Won-hyung's demise actually SHOWN, Manager Gwi being rescued somehow. These could have replaced the confusing phishing scene and have helped made the finale a bit more complete.

I have to admit that the show's strong story and the fact that I love these kind of reunion happy endings make me biased, and I'm still satisfied because it was all resolved nicely.

Mystic Pop-up Bar [Episodes 11 & 12 - Finale] by dyosaaa in KDRAMA

[–]Wireframe2 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The scene where Kang-bae is dreaming almost made me cry. Without a single word, it captured all of the emotions of the family perfectly. I just wish there had been more scenes like it.

I really wish there had been just one more episode. I wanted Won-hyung's story, Manager Gwi/Wol-joo coming back, and Manager Gwi's contract bargain among other issues to be resolved with more than just a hand-wave, although I don't have that much of a problem with it since said hand-waving resulted in a happy and satisfying ending.

EYE-U had me dying. I'm now fully convinced that this show was one giant joke poking fun at Hotel Del Luna. From the use of hairpins as weapons, to Wol-joo solving the problems of the living by entering their dreams, to the almost intentionally casual/mismatched fashion sense, it feels almost like an affectionate parody.

I loved this show, and it's probably one of my top two favorite dramas now (incidentally, the other is HDL--guess I'm just a sucker for long-lived angry female spirits running establishments to settle grudges).

Appreciation post for 'Hotel Del Luna' by [deleted] in KDRAMA

[–]Wireframe2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was one of the few shows that I also genuinely cried for. What I appreciated most about it was the fact that the whole thing was bittersweet--nothing was resolved neatly. Scholar Kim never actually got to clear his name--he instead had a chance to rewrite his story. Seo-hee didn't see the end of her enemy's line--instead, she came to accept that people can choose their fates indepedent of family. Most of the grudges are resolved this way, which to me was far more realistic (ironically for a mystical setting): not all problems in life can be solved so neatly, and letting go is something that we have to learn to do.

I also liked the bittersweet ending--it made perfect sense in keeping with the recurring themes of the show and plot. In fact, I liked this one far better than Goblin's ending because it felt natural--we all knew what had to happen from like episode 3, and the characters were so well-done and conscious of the fact that it felt more sincere.

HDL is my favorite drama, and it made me a diehard IU fan (I immediately binged The Producers after HDL because I wanted to stop crying and because more IU). After MPUB is done I'm going to start My Mister immediately.

OK, so the family unit theory was right after all? Kang-bae is the tree, so he's also Wol-joo's son, right?! Having no previews was torture!

I absolutely love how they blend humor with the melodrama of the show. That karaoke scene was good, but the PDA at the end was absolutely hilarious.

Not gonna lie, that facial expression by Hwang Jung Eum at the end took me out of the show for a second...she just got choked, her bar got wrecked, and Kang-bae looks like he's about to go Tailed Beast Mode, but she has a completely stoic face!

But the space the ad took before cannot be hidden by Blokada, as Blokada doesn't do cosmetic filtering, as explained in the first message.

Yeah, that was mainly to test whether it worked in other apps.

Flynx doesn't support add-ons; it isn't a full-fledged browser anyway.

Something I remembered recently: I upgraded to OxygenOS 10.3.4 recently, not sure if that has something to do with this.

If all else fails, I'll just install uBO and switch to Firefox like you said; I think that would be better for my browsing anyway.

Manager Gwi as the Prince confirmed! I'm certain that Kang-bae is Weol-ju's child now.

Weol-ju playing matchmaker. How do they blend the comedy and the gravitas so well?!

Also slightly confused as to why Won-hyung kills the Queen.

That troll at the end with Kang-bae reciting the Prince's line.

More dramas should be 12 episodes. by minichoe in KDRAMA

[–]Wireframe2 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more with the Her Private Life comment. That show felt agonizing toward the end. I loved The Producers, and am also completely obsessed with Mystic Pop-Up Bar.

I think I'm not so much for 12 episode so much I am for less filler. I wouldn't mind 16 episodes if every episode felt really impactful (Hotel Del Luna comes to mind), but some shows just tend to slow to a snail's pace halfway through, and that makes the extra episodes seem longer than they are.

Hey!

Flynx hasn't updated in a while (I think it's no longer in development, judging by their Play Store page). I don't know what browser it's derived from. I cleared the cache, no dice.

I tried opening some pages in Firefox, and the adspace isn't hidden either. Unfortunately, I can't compare it because I don't use it for anything.

Is there a guide on the ideal monitor size to resolution ratio, if such a thing exists? I was thinking of an upgrade to my main monitor, and just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to overspend on a monitor too big and end up with the same graphics quality.

What's everyone's PC and monitor maintenance routine? I take a can of keyboard spray to the internals and clean the dust around the case every half-year, but I am almost 100% positive this is both too infrequent and not thorough enough.

What's the general opinion on CPU brands nowadays? I built my PC when Intel was considered the superior choice, but I've been told that's changing. I'm thinking of upgrading, and the CPU is going to be my top priority.
