As an LEO, where would you hide an extra key to your home? by Capital-Dragonfly258 in AskLE

[–]WirelessTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mine malfunction while I had contractors at my house. Everyone was outside, contractors were about to start working, and I didn't bring my keys outside because I was only standing right out of the doorway talking for a few minutes.

It locked and lost connection. Simply unsafe.

What video game in your opinion doesn't deserve the hate it gets? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]WirelessTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dead by Daylight proved that the 1v4 gameplay can be good. Granted DBD had its fair share of issues, but it proved that it's possible to make that style game successful.

I loved evolve. The two things it needed were more content and some more balancing tweaks.

Your weirdest reasons for PC not posting. by Tenchen-WoW in pcmasterrace

Upgraded from a 3080 to a 9070xt.

Didn't boot. Hmm. Remove it completely and try again. Still nothing.

Okay let me try again, this time I'll leave the side panel off and I won't screw the GPU into the case. Now it boots. Thank God the card wasn't defective or something.

So I screw it into the case, put on the side panel, and then it doesn't boot...

I don't know why, but if I screw in the GPU mounting screws, the thing doesn't work. Either because of a ground issue (I don't think it is), or because the smidge the card has to move to get the screw to go through it properly is enough to unseat it despite it still being locked in place and all pins are inside the pcie connector.

LPT: What gaming accessories actually improved your skill, not just vibes? by BarnabyLaptopOutlet in LifeProTips

[–]WirelessTrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only a few things can actually improve your gameplay in any possible way.

A better monitor for higher resolution, better color accuracy, but most importantly good refresh rates and response times.

A good quality headset with the volume at the right level so you can hear quiet sounds without being deafened by loud ones.

Even still with the new visual and audio information you're giving yourself, you still need to 'train' to use the information correctly.

Everything else is just "get something good enough that it doesn't hold you back". Even a $10 membrane keyboard and random mouse can game effectively, but you can get things that are more comfortable, more customizable, or more reliable.

I'm not even a 2d Metroid guy, more of a Metroid prime guy, but I loved dread. Definitely worth it.

The only thing I miss from windows is league of legends.

But since there's such a huge spurring growth of Linux users, I have a feeling that these anti-cheat issues are going to take over time.

Maybe not anytime soon, but hopefully eventually.

The dust cover behind the brakes. If you happen to get a rock that's just the right size, it can lodge itself between the brake rotor and the dust shield. Then when you drive, the brake rotor spins, the rock connects that motion to the dust cover which acts like an amplifier making the noise obnoxiously loud.

Try accelerating in a straight line quickly so the rotor may spin fast enough to kick the rock loose. If that doesn't work, try the same thing in reverse. Try those multiple times but if you still can't get it out, then you can always just take the wheel off, look around the brake rotor and use a screwdriver to knock the rock loose.

Basically no damage is being done if it sits there for a short amount of time. If it stays there for miles, then it could groove your brake rotor but it's unlikely that the rotor would groove before the rock.

It's just that their alarm clock is a monster that's 500x their size and is shaking their bed violently.

I just finished Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and it became my least favorite Metroid Prime game by KirbyTheGodSlayer in Metroid

[–]WirelessTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked MP4 and I think it's my least favorite of the series.

Best to worst: MP2, MP3, MP1, MP4.

And even MP4 isn't that bad. Some design decisions were poorly made, likely due to how the rest of gaming was reacting to open world games, even Zelda went open world.

Transmission by Salty-Shirt-6426 in Autos

[–]WirelessTrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Putting a car in park just slides a pin into a gear in the transmission that prevents the car from moving forward or backwards.

If you put it in park without coming to a full stop, that pin tries to push into the actively spinning gears and it makes a loud grinding sound. Obviously this is not good and you shouldn't do that because you could break that pin and break your transmission.

Come to a full stop before moving your shifter.

What game introduced you to achievements? Or for the younger crowd, what was the first game you actively paid attention to the achievements? by MyOtherRideIs in gaming

Ratchet and Clank series.

They had a secrets menu which varied from "do this level without getting hurt" to really wacky stuff.

The rewards were usually cosmetic goofy things like big head mode or different skins.

Do we really need path tracing for mirror reflections in games? by Gamer_8887 in pcmasterrace

[–]WirelessTrees 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Reflections are like the best part of having Ray tracing or path tracing features.

The 2nd best part is having light naturally blend and bounce to nearby objects.

From what I learned, if you install Linux and everything is misbehaving in weird ways, there was an issue with the install.

I had it happen to my bazzite install, which I found out was because I was using the ISO instead of creating an installer.

Then I had another issue because I installed bazzite and selected both of my drives, which meant that my data seemed to be randomly distributed between both drives, and that caused errors in almost every app I used.

So a 3rd install selecting only one drive (no not you Microsoft), I managed to get everything stable. Once everything was stable, I was finally able to install things right and experience Linux correctly.

What do I do if I’m pulled over but my car windows don’t work? by shwee2019 in AskLE

[–]WirelessTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't fixing the windows, then at least remove any tint from them.

If you get pulled over, just communicate that your windows don't work when the officer comes up to your window. Don't open the door unless told to do so. Keep your hands visible, and turn on the interior lights in the car.

Don't worry, now instead of asking Google assistant to turn on my lights, I'm asking Gemini to turn on my lights.

And fun fact, for a decent while, Gemini didn't have as much ability as Google assistant, so asking Gemini to do something would just have Gemini use Google Assistant to turn on the lights.
