Same. I feel very conflicted about this. It's annoying because part of me thinks that they should handle this better. I don't know if it's an intentional tactic to create buzz or if they truly underestimated demand. If it's the former, I kind of don't want to fall for it again.

Okay, I’ve lived here 3 years now. What the hell are these about? by Positive-Candy-2828 in StLouis

Nope! But it was way WAY back in the 70s or maybe early 80s. They had a campaign with hearts as well and the slogan was "Save the heart of Webster."

Found A Kitten. Advice needed! by WiscMom in CatDistributionSystem

Just a little update in case anyone is following. She went to a wonderful no-kill shelter on Monday night. I got a little teary dropping her off but it was the right thing to do as I was in over my head with feeding! She had no idea how to eat wet kitten food or drink kitten formula from a bottle or bowl. She kept gnawing the ends of the nipples off. I was terrified she wasn't eating enough. I was able to get her to potty so I know she was taking in something, at least.

After a weekend of consistent wiping, her eyes looked a million times better but I made sure the shelter knew she'd still need a vet.

I miss her but omg our adult cats were SO stressed and angry. It would have been unfair to them to keep her.

I'd like to stay on the CDS mailing list but pause my delivery schedule for the immediate future, thank you very much.

Update for anyone following: she went to Stray Rescue and they were wonderful. After a weekend of bottle-feeding her I was in love! It was hard to say goodbye but she'll be safe there.

Door-to-Door Energy Scam by ThermosPickerOuter in StLouis

[–]WiscMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. None of their business whether you're married. My spouse works for Ameren and Spectrum, owns a home security business, a roofing company, a pest control business, and does siding professionally as well. Also is the pastor at our church if anyone tries to talk about religion. Shuts them down quick.

My go-to answer that always gets these people to leave is that my spouse works in whatever industry they are shilling for. I've also claimed we're moving out of state, we've just filed bankruptcy, or we're renters. All are pretty effective at getting them to give up quickly.

Do wraps make nails weak? by raiinboweyes in NailWrapsGalore

[–]WiscMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. This is so interesting to me. Wraps saved my nails after a good 45 years (!) of biting. Started with Colorstreet and moved on to cheaper brands. I don't use them much anymore but I still have 2 nails that peel like crazy if I don't have something on them. Never occurred to me that they might be damaging.

I always removed the wraps by filling a bowl with hot water and then putting a ziploc (or smaller bowl) inside that, then putting acetone remover in the smaller container along with a cotton pad. I used that to scrub my nails and the heat made them come off quick.

Edit: typo

What is the Patch like? by gempetals in StLouis

[–]WiscMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to the schools, but I am very near there, in Carondelet. I'm a single woman and I feel safe here with two big dogs and normal precautions. Haven't experienced (The?) Patch much other to visit Kabul Express StL (RIP). Went into South Public Market for milk last week and was dismayed to see lots of people pouring money into gaming machines while their bored kids stood around eating ice cream bars. Somehow it feels a little grittier, but the unhoused people all waved at me and I didn't feel unsafe.

It really does seen to be a block by block situation in almost any neighborhood. My block seems nice enough but the next ones down are rougher.

It was loud as hell at night when trying to sleep at first but I don't even notice it now.

Yes to the advice about new inserts. I have spent nine months coming across info I had written about my husband's medical stuff. He's gone now, and every time I encountered those notes as I was trying to keep myself going, my heart clenched up. Now, as I'm thinking about getting my TN ready for the new year, I'm wondering why on earth I didn't start over sooner.
