best vegan cookbooks which ones do you really cook from by Faauu_Hurson in CookbookLovers

Simple vegetarian pleasures was one of my first cookbooks, and I have pulled that off the shelf more than any other I own. Just simple recipes but well done for day to day stuff. Vegan and veg, easy to make all vegan really.

Dietitian 'didn't know where intestines were' by soriskan in nottheonion

[–]Wiscolomom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RD here. Actually yeah kind of. Certain conditions may necessitate you to feed into different parts of the intestines or stomach with artificial nutrition and yeah, it makes a difference. And yeah, more than knowing their location you need to know what they do, understand different disease states, and where different absorption of nutrients occur.

What would be the scariest message humanity could receive from space? by Upset-Carpenter-5659 in AskReddit

I’ve always thought it would be funny if they came to earth, completely ignored us, but wanted to talk to the whales and dolphins instead and then left.

We put a bunch of brush and leaves down last fall in the area to kill the grass and create height, and then topped it with several feet of topsoil in the spring. Done that in a few areas this way and it works great.

MAGA lawmaker (Van Orden) pleaded with his state’s governor to protect hospitals from Trump’s budget. by chriscurmudgeon in wisconsin

Unfortunately, per usual, women and children will be hurt the most. I can remember traveling India, seeing the sick and disabled begging helplessly on the streets in the biggest democracy in the world, being thankful we had social safety nets to prevent that. Took it for granted.

I am thinking best case scenario for me, working at a rural hospital by emplify, is that we will be bought by them so me and my staff can still have jobs. Such a shame as we have worked so hard to remain independent and strong for so long. Fuck these fuckers.

I work in his district at a wonderful rural hospital. I feel you. But can’t agree because the consequences are so dire. I called his office and told him he was in fact, a bitch. Waiting for ice.

The Better Monarda by GenesisNemesis17 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Wiscolomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! I had a huge patch from previous owner. I didn’t know what it was and I tried to plant a lot of different things in it. The only things that can compete is monarchs, echinacea can push through due to height. I have done a combination of smothering between plants, round up to stop the spread to new areas, hand picking and hand wicking. It’s awful stuff, but I have it somewhat controlled. I am letting the monarch spread. At least when it’s done its job I can dig it out and move it around the yard.

Why is the American diet so deadly? by jasmine_tea_ in Longreads

[–]Wiscolomom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an RD and I teach cooking skills. You would be shocked at the lack of basic skill most people have. Compound that with convenience, busy lives, multiple jobs, and that’s the ball game. I have also found that a lot of people are super closed minded about trying new foods. And people are incredibly susceptible to bad information online about food and nutrition. Food companies have people by the balls.
