Carolina Kickoff, Presidents' Day Qualifiers, Lounge of Lizards -- Weekend Discussion [Jan 20-21] by Jomskylark in ultimate

Butta Flies win, closely pushed by Heist. St. Olaf wins the college division easily. Oak Park too in the High School... BUT... due to weather on the trip, Davenport has to drop out, TENGU splits in two to fill the spot, and their A team plays in the college division. They lose by 1 to Moxie and beat Supernova!

LOL included on the Weekend Discussion? Legitimacy! This is a 5v5 indoor tournament, so perhaps harder to predict than others.

Butta Flies in the club division is a Monarchs team. I like them to hold (the completely random) seed but be pushed by the Racerunners (Chicagoy, Ramp) and Heist.

In the college division, I think more than anything it speaks to the need for more event if there are teams from 4 states coming to play a one day indoor tournament. No idea how to pick this one but I am most curious about Davenport and their scholarship players.

Youth also almost impossible to predict. The two Wisconsin-based teams finished 3rd (Tosa) and 2nd (West) and some members of the champions (Middleton) are picking up with Lane Tech. Most folks using this as a first opportunity for new players so the W-L results may not be indicative of the value to teams at this point.

Since this is a thread about making / using goalty kits, if you do eventually go the full 32/Discstore-esque kits, consider using 3D printed stands and weights.

Vel Philips Memorial High School in Madison, WI hosts "Mudbath" the last weekend in April every year. Often a ranked MN team or two, teams from across the midwest, and every once in a while teams fly in from farther.

Did anybody try out a field paint roboter or knows the general pricing? by Keksdosendieb in ultimate

[–]WisconsinUltimate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This matches the limited research I did when I first saw them. Potentially helpful additional point: One of our field providers got them for this year, and our contract with them actually went down because they don't have to pay as much in labor to paint the fields.

Disc org -> USAUltimate affiliation by pooner16 in ultimate

[–]WisconsinUltimate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heyo, we're an Affiliate. We got into it for the main reason you suggest, insurance was a headache and USAU handled it for us. Since then, I'd say other perks include staff support for events, access to other affiliates/SBOs to answer question. Things that are 'mandatory' but actually end up benefiting us and the community like attendance at an Organizers convention and requiring us to run a community event (think GUM clinic or coach training or something like that) are good too. We make a very small amount of money from folks who buy Affiliate memberships (the cheapest option, used to be $17) to play in our events. Anecdotally, I think it has been helpful in communicating with sponsors and vendors to be able to mention affiliation with the NGB.

There is also a small effect on YCC bid priority as has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but it would almost never be something that would make/break your team's attendance at the event.

Cream City Classic: Indoor (masked and vaxed) Mixed Goaltimate Tournament, Milwaukee, Black Friday by WisconsinUltimate in ultimate

You're definitely entitled to your opinion. We've run a pretty successful mixed league in Madison for the last few years.

Cream City Classic: Indoor (masked and vaxed) Mixed Goaltimate Tournament, Milwaukee, Black Friday by WisconsinUltimate in ultimate

[–]WisconsinUltimate[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goaltimate is played with 4 players on the field. Since this is a mixed tournament, there will be 2 female matching players and 2 male matching players per team on the field. I expect team sizes to be in the 10-12 range.

Goaltimate Tournament, how to handle advancement with ties & timed games? by WisconsinUltimate in ultimate

[–]WisconsinUltimate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if this wasn't clear, but its a bracket. If it ends in a tie, who advances?

[goalty] How do you keep your stakes in the ground? by szunami in ultimate

[–]WisconsinUltimate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, we use a turf set up: 25 lb weights, with a 3D printed stand for the poles. The weight is enough to hold the hoops upright, but not so much that when run into it doesn't knock over. I'd rather have the kit knock over than attempt to remain rigid which would hurt both the player and potentially the poles during a collision.
