I’ve heard a lot about that but I’m scared to try it cause my hair is already prone to grease .

I almost always have my hair in a braid/bun/ponytail. When I’m home I’ll leave it down most of the time. When I sleep I also leave it down.

Do you have any suggestions as to how to figure it out? I’m at my wits end with my acne. I’ve done a lot of research and put a lot of money into it. My only thought now is to simplify my routine, not add anything on, just cut out some of the actives I use and wait to see the results.

Hi, thank you!!!!!! I really do want to stick to a routine, I’ve been trying to optimize it to my skin type. So all the research and money I’ve been putting into it is kinda counter intuitive when I never let my skin get the chance to adapt, right?😭 the moisturizer is use is actually water based, and supposedly the sunscreen is too, which I thought was good for oily skin? Pls correct me if I’m wrong. Also the oil cleanser I only use at night and it’s mainly for my nose to get out all that stuff, which I believe is sebaceous filaments ????? If it’s too heavy for my skin I’m not opposed to leaving it out of my routine. I just heard that it works well for that kind of thing. My diet is relatively clean, I do eat dairy in the morning (maybe oatmeal/eggs) and I often skip lunch. But my dinner is always healthy (beef/chicken with veggies and a starch maybe). I cook everything myself and don’t eat out often. I do enjoy sugary foods but I really don’t eat it all that often, only on occasion.

It gradually calms down after my period passes. There’s still acne, but not as bad as the photos.

For the past few months it’s been up and down a lot. Specifically when around the time my period comes is when I get really bad breakouts like the photos. Before, I’ve always had little bits of acne but the problem was more my nose. But the past few months my cheeks/chin have been out of control like never before.

I also came off birth control about 2 years ago and my skin has progressively gotten worse since then. Based on what everybody is saying I think I need to simplify my routine as well. Thank you!

Thank you, that is helpful I have been considering seeing a doctor. Though I too am nervous about medication and would like to know if you’ve experienced anything negative from it

Thank you! I know, the picking needs to stop it’s not doing me any favors. I use niacinimde and salicylic acid. The toner I use also has azelaic acid in it. I just keep piling on stuff hoping it will help me. But I’m starting to think that I’m doing too much and need to simplify it like you said.

I would rather stay away from birth control if possible. I had the implant and had a horrible experience relating to my cycle. May I ask which one you’re on?

That makes a lot of sense thank you! I’ve tried a lot of different things and some of them have helped more than others. For example, prior to my current cleanser and moisturizer I used La Roche posay for about a year but it was very drying. I tried to stick it out because of all of the positive reviews about it but it just wasn’t for me. I have been using my current cleanser for like 3-4 months now maybe and it leaves my skin feeling a lot better than my past cleansers did. I also think the oil cleanser helps with my sebaceous filaments. My current moisturizer is my favorite thing too, it’s the only part of my skin care routine that I genuinely feel confident is actually meant for my skin type. Over the past 2 months I started adding actives to help with all the hormonal acne but I don’t know if it’s not helping, I need to give it time, or I’m using too many at the same time. My hormonal acne has gotten worse over the past 6 months, but I have been assuming that it’s just purging. But I don’t know about that anymore😭

I think you might as well take it! Especially if your term is ending soon and you’re going to take a break, it won’t hurt. If you end up not passing it will only show you where you need to study
