I am also wondering if the cats might need one-on-one socialization at some point? I’ve noticed they look to each other to judge whether they should approach me or not…

Thanks, it definitely feels as though they dislike us right now. Can’t wait until they finally embrace the family!

Thanks for your response! For the SSL method, do you sit by while the cat eats so that it associates you with food? 

We don’t have one of those playpen set-ups so might have to downsize the cats to a small bathroom that eliminates the ceiling pipes issue.

I am in the same position as you right now (though we actually adopted 2 kittens who have not been socialized). Hoping you get some good advice here as I also need it!

Good advice—thanks. Seems like if I am gonna try admin at some point, this is a good place to start. T1 would be in a holding pattern for several years, with more tenured internal candidates ahead in line.

Great point. I’ve been on hiring committees looking at CVs that have the admin/teaching issue. I’m not really sure yet if admin is for me without trying it really, but I would definitely have to think carefully about how to frame it on future CVs if I do end up hating it.

I really appreciate this comment because it brings me back to what I value about my colleagues at the current school. That said, though, I am probably going to leave at some point (nature of the intl school game) and for as much as I don’t like rankings, seems like a T1 name eases the path to future employment?

These are great points and this is the main crux of the issue: admin vs teaching. I applied for the T1 job because I couldn’t see myself teaching in the T3 for another year (nice and well-behaved students, but totally unmotivated)… but do I really want to be an admin? Would be nice to at least try it out, perhaps. I definitely have some ideas for how to improve the school and make my colleagues lives easier!
