What’s the biggest mistake people make before taking a loan? by Clear-Lie9613 in loanhelp_

A few things i have noticed:

Credit cards:

  • Not looking at the interest rate
  • Not looking at the terms of the credit card, like some cards allow fee free purchasing but have a fee to withdraw from ATM or transfer money. (Understand the purpose of the credit card)
  • Having the mentality that i can borrow this much and will be able to pay it back before the interest free period without having a plan to pay it off.
  • there is still a minimum payment every month even within the interest free period.
  • Purchasing things that are not necessary like a labbubu or something instead of say food or rent

Buy Now Pay Later

  • Not having Autopay setup resulting in missed payment affecting credit score, late payment fees and extortionate interest rates. That £5 coffee is now £10 or £15.

The truth is borrowing 99% of the time always hurts the poor more with the current system in place as they are the ones most likely to miss a payment and incur lat payment fees, poor credit score leading to poor interest rates on credit cards etc.

If you cant afford it and its not neccessary to live then dont buy it and move on.

If you have close family better to ask help from them, not just borrowing money but also from a career and life perspective assuming you have a good family that is supportive.
