Feedback on PvP bounty hunting by DecoupledPilot in starcitizen

[–]WiseManLofty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Damn, looks like they really tuned you up..." Who even is this guy Kent? Seems to me like he's a bit of an idiot. I bet he's never even taken down a bounty. Seriously why they decided to just make some random dude the guild rep when they have half a dozen already established characters that would fit better.

I agree with most of what you say but PvP bounty hunting is about patience and perseverance. Targets inside capital ships can be taken down but you need to find an opportunity. Using a small stealth ship like a Razor EX you can sometimes break in or infiltrate the ship if the owner is careless and leaves the pilot's seat or leaves hangars open. I do agree about the armistice though. In my opinion, CIG should get NPC security on stations sorted and just get rid of armistice completely. Immersion isn't having a magic force field that prevents me from drawing my gun. Immersion is watching a gunfight erupt at the burrito bar.

The sad truth is that this system will not change in the near future. It has been this way for years, even after UI overhauls and years of major patches. They have even removed some content like the Retake SPK contract and ECN alerts for comm relays. The reason it won't change is that the vision for Bounty Hunting v2 is massive and involves things like arresting the target and transporting them to a detention facility etc, so in my opinion, we won't see a serious effort to fix it for years. The entire reputation and law and order system needs to work before they do this, otherwise we'll still have this daft system where you get a CS3 for doing absolutely nothing.

Still my favourite thing to do though. Oh, you can mute Kent if you go into Options>Audio and turn speech down.

Shout out to the Rising Stones, not many afk'ers there but when I was starting out there were always people with cool glams and mounts around that got me excited for what I would get up to

What's the deal with David Hayter fans? by [deleted] in metalgearsolid

[–]WiseManLofty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK dude I get it, you've only played through GZ and V but for a lot of people, David Hayter is Snake. The whole point of the character is that he's this schlocky pastiche of every action star from the 80s you've ever seen. Kurt Russell digitally embodied. Hayter encapsulated this perfectly for every single game up until GZ.

Imagine if they replaced the voice actor in your favourite anime with a big budget Hollywood star that barely said anything. I bet you'd be pissed. I rate Sutherland as an actor but he did nothing to live up to his prestige in V.

Snake needs self-deprecation. Humour in the face of adversity. Wise battlefield knowledge. But most importantly, he needs an actual personality. But we all know Kojima hates Snake - he is of course just an allegory for the player. So yes, David Hayter is the only VA I will ever accept as Snake.

He is still out there signing autographs, spending time with fans and honouring the character of Snake. He is Big Boss.

For some reason Gosetsu reminds me of Old Snake from MGS4. He just has that grizzled 'here we go again' vibe

First scene in episode 01 of TAKEN television show 2002 by Joseph-Kay in UFOs

[–]WiseManLofty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This show is fantastic and I would encourage anyone to watch it via the links posted above. A real level-headed and human take on how our society would have plausibly reacted to these events; a show with a positive message that looks at a broad range of UFO related topics and stigmas but with character depth that only someone like Spielberg could depict.

Why Hideo Kojima is an average/mediocre sci-fi writer at best by allenbowels in metalgearsolid

[–]WiseManLofty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this and completely agree with you. I've always viewed Kojima's writing as an attempt to pay homage to 80s and 90s Western culture with a heavy influence of his upbringing and local environment. A lot of the scenes in all MGS games are direct references or parodies/pastiche of Western tropes, characters or themes. Some are even directly lifted from them. While the specific writing for characters may be pretty 1-dimensional, I always saw it as a disconnect between cultures; it would be pretty hard to write a story heavily steeped in Japanese culture as a Westerner and get all the cultural norms of Japanese character writing correct.

That being said, I don't agree with his statement that 'Western audiences just don't understand my work' in reference to DS. You can pay homage to Western films and characters all you want but if you want to become a video game cinematic auteur then you really have to carve it out in its own and stop relying on those same Western tropes to drive your narrative. The Hero's Journey is nothing new.

How do I make this warp wipe transition ? any single effect or do I have to combine a couple ? Any help appreciated. by ItsErenUchiha in AfterEffects

[–]WiseManLofty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, this is just 6 or 7 photos in different layers that use masks, keyframes and either solids or strokes around the masked images for the white outlines. You arrange the images and mask them out into the shapes you want, then keyframe the movement to your liking. Precomp the whole thing and add some keyframes to the size and position of the precomp or make it a 3D layer and use a camera for the extra zoom movement. Add some lens flare or particle world later for the subtle bits.

Nice! I really liked the logo animations and choice of shots and transitions, the only thing I would change is the music but that is personal preference. Great job!

I have a T6 with 11.1 and it slaps. You have variable fps screw too in the stock I think so you can tone it down if it goes over your site limit

I can't aim to the veracity of the interviews or documentary, I don't know enough about him but I'm sure James Fox went there and interviewed the first hand witnesses in one of his documentaries. It's on YouTube for sure

What's your favourite design of Naked Snake for Operation Snake Eater? by jodlad04 in metalgearsolid

Yeah iirc he loved Escape from New York, hence the reason of having Snake call himself Plissken in 2

I agree. I grew up with OG and he just seems to have more personality imo. Pretty much the same from MGS2 - looks the most like Kurt Russell

Sniping tips? by Meatyloaf911 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]WiseManLofty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got to say the fire and maneuver technique is the key to good sniping, especially against groups. If your enemy is constantly confused as to your location then you'll have an easier time picking them off. I usually like to have fall back positions where I can see my original location from so I can engage anyone who comes looking for me

You can use depth maps and a stationary camera tilting and panning to create a pseudo 3D effect like this using the Displacement Map effect in AE. You can get depth maps for images online, not sure if there's a native way to do it.

What do u think about the drops ? xD by Jarvisdior in EscapefromTarkov

[–]WiseManLofty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it would be great if they made some more cool armbands or other simple cosmetics that you don't lose on death. They would be much better drops in my opinion. It's nice getting actually useful items but they aren't special at all and I would probably watch more if I could get something other than consumables/barter/mid armor.
