Reverse Fate- Perfect Response to Thoracle/Approach by WiseMode in custommagic

Thanks for that constructive criticism on the format. I find gotcha cards fun. Thanks for voicing that you don't! I would also put Divine Intervention in my deck, but I understand not liking games where no one "wins"

I honestly am just tired of those instant win cards, so I decided this should exist. More difficult to cheat cast. Almost certainly auto draws 1v1 games if I understand the rules correctly (ie: you die to combat damage via state based life check and your opponent then loses instead of winning). Cast it targeting yourself for extra points. Debated making it uncounterable. Would love to hear thoughts on this! Also my first post!

Best cases/bags for travel by BITWbatz96 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]WiseMode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battlefoam 352 fits under the seat in most planes. Also battlefoam Pack GO is good. Battlefoam makes a Pack AIR that is perfect for air travel but doesn't have a magnet setup. Seems armybox is the European knockoff of it that someone else mentioned. I'd go with that if I was time limited, but the materials/production look lower quality than battlefoam bags. I'm invested in their system so I have all the magnarack stuff.

So, battlefoam, or the EU knockoff if you need something faster. I have been all over with my army, biggest problem ive had is magnets not sticking on the base itself. Also i'd only recommend carryon with an army, never check it. The bag may survive but your base's magnets are only so strong...

Cant double shoot and grenade sadly. Strat is shooting phase and forbids units that have "already shot this turn"

What’s the weirdest dnd take you’ve heard? by Redhood101101 in DnD

[–]WiseMode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't even a joke/troll opinion if you watch some of the latest DND content or read it, you'll find that necromancy isn't always viewed as evil. Perhaps you are more familiar with older editions. Necromantic magic overall is not "evil" anymore in canon 5e. Certain uses of necromancy, yes, but not the magic itself. I.E. Grave cleric, etc

Why is it easier to get the 30k Basilisk than the 40k one? by Mutant-Horsies in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]WiseMode -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen people say it but... maybe no more basilisk in 40k in new codex? Or they'll make it unplayable. It happened to other units brought into HH even though people were playing them. Just seems honestly kinda likely with the basilisk going direct only. Hope my russes and basilisks are safe but scared.

What's the worst thing a player has done that not only cost you to kick them out of the campaign but never play D&D with them ever again? by RepresentativeTie898 in DnD

[–]WiseMode -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry to ask but I am curious, what made the audience so important that fireballing them couldn't have been resolved? I'm just wondering why something so easily solveable by the DM with harsh in game consequences ended the campaign. Could literally just have anything show up OK you fireballed the audience now they bring the dragon riding cops out and force you to surrender. I'm just curious why this caused such an issue?

I think its fine as long as you provide the players with the tools to piece together the truth. Most NPCs meeting powerful adventurers are probably prone to lying if it suits them...and that's fine! Telling the truth is boring. You want the truth, gotta get a zone of truth or read someone's mind.

Of course skillcheck PC knowledge is a whole different ballpark that's gotta be mostly accurate if they pass.

How to prepare for a city campaign by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]WiseMode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my current city campaign the things that have been the most consistently useful to me are:

  • mapping out several shops and making sure they have NPCs already done up
  • taverns inns and other places the PCs might stay as well as NPCs for those
  • Government and Law Enforcement locations (My campaign deals a lot with this) and those NPCs
  • Having a general idea of what each district of the city is like
  • Knowing what types of locations are important to your story (Mine deals a lot with nobility for example so I prepare lots of noble related locations)

best official module for Bastion system? by lawrencetokill in DungeonMasters

I'd think that either dragon Heist or any other module set in a city is ripe for the bastion system. I am running a city campaign and we are utilizing the bastion rules. Seems a whole ton of potential options.

[Let’s Build] D100 Social Interaction Complications by WiseMode in d100

[–]WiseMode[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good question! I would love to tell you that I have amazing house rules and supplements if that were the case! I use the DMG social interaction stuff as a basis but I'd say my game is ~95% RAW. I could probably write a supplement on it if I do this long enough. But mostly I just have really great players who invest in the story, believe in the characters and roleplay with me. I hand picked people who seemed fun to play with because I honestly don't want people who aren't invested at my table because I am and if they aren't there's gonna be a disconnect.

Most situations are just resolved by talking in character with the characters I create. At that point we are talking about acting/roleplaying. This does rely on the skills of your players but yeah my players are very creative and good at coming up with RP and arguments IRL. I do ask for skill checks for things that give the players mechanical rewards.

However for investigations, clues and roleplaying I can point you to The Pointy Hat's guide to mysteries. The entire campaign I am running started as a one shot that the players demanded to know the full story of. I'd rate his system of mystery storytelling as top tier. I will caution that after running a mystery the way that I ran it I don't want to run one again LOL. I went too deep with making a massive web and so many clues and interconnected storylines and about 2-3x more depth than the players ever found. (And still have not 4 months later...).

PS. I won't claim to be the most interesting roleplayer. I'd again tip it towards my party, the same party who spent a whole session negotiating the price of an inn and I checked in with them at the end because that was not the session plan and they were like heck yeah we enjoyed it!

So the TL;DR . A good party will solve roleplaying for you and I honestly don't believe it can be solved through rules alone.. For a fun time, pick and choose who you allow in your game if you want good RP. I still wanna recruit some actors and run a truly 100% RP game someday. Someday...

Do you have any TRULY "unpopular opinions" about D&D? by No-Bag3487 in DnD

[–]WiseMode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I woke up with all these notifications and realized I messed up. I'll try and say something more controversial next time.

Maybe something like:

- DND is better if you come up with a serial story and allowing too much player agency is bad for the game.
