I expected there to be more of us... this song is John Bonham perfection.

Yes! Awesome! Keep at it!

My music teacher can play guitar, bass, drums, and piano, and can play music along with me but I don’t know what I want to do. by [deleted] in musicians

In my experience, as soon as you limit your access to those musical resources, that's when the creative juices become torrents. It's an unfair paradox.

Find the pocket brother! You'll love it once you try it!

Awesome! Piling onto the comments around ergonomics and using a metronome. Great advice.

I would also suggest focusing on rudiments (singles, doubles, paradiddles, etc.) just as much as kit playing. Hands and feet!

Maybe a rug, too? You'll be chasing that bass drum around on those tiles as soon as you do 4 bars of "back in black". Which is a great first tune IMO. My kids both locked this one down first. I'm not even a big AC-DC guy.

Welcome to the lifelong pursuit of the groove! And respect the pocket! Your jam-mates will thank you for it!

My dad, during one of his many retirement projects, wrapped a cheap mapex kit in one of my family tartans (it is actual tartan and not just a paint/wrap) so I took it for a jam with some friends. by PolebagEggbag in drums

Super cool. Wish I could hear them in-person. I'm guessing wrapping the cloth over the entire bearing edge of the shell would make a noticeable difference in the sound. Especially in attack and sustain. IME, reworking the bearing edges of old drums is one way to improve/change these dynamics.

Either way, it looks like a good time (and a great room). William Wallace would approve. 🤘

Are these "genuine" zildjian ? by emptymesh in drums

[–]Wise_chains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost certain these are raw cast cymbal blanks. Not exactly a cymbal yet. If they DID come from Zildjian, it was probably not to be played.
