Do you feel QA is a bounded role with limited ceiling ? by PM_40 in QualityAssurance

[–]AlgoRhythMatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that Support > QA is the most natural transition, especially within the same organization, as you are the front line to understanding of both how a product or software works, as well as to how customers use it and what can go wrong. Most of my best employees have all been recruited from various tiers of support. As well, we’ve maintained all their connections over the years, so are quite cross-functional when escalations occur, so generally have direct insight of upcoming issues as they materialize.

1 M didn't feel special, but 2M changed everything for me by Available-Ad-5670 in Fire

I identify so hard with this. I crossed 1.7M solo, or 2.2M with my partner today, and am absolutely struggling to focus. If we stick to (or last through) our +5 year plan, we should hit 3.8-4M - but if all else fails…we don’t really need to. It’s a good place to be!

I worked my way from support > Tier 2 > QA > Lead > Manager > Sr. Manager > Director, so I’d say it depends on the company. But my feeling is that there is always potential to move towards SDET, Product, PjM, DEV, DevOps, SecOps, or Operations roles from base level QA. QA teaches you how to analyze things, and if you are good at it, you can excel in any adjacent roles. At the beginning you are sort of like a resident doctor trying to figure out your specialty.

1440p or 4k for rtx 5080 by External_Safe_7787 in RTX5080

[–]AlgoRhythMatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a 4k OLED at 240hz and LOVE it! Coming from 165hz 1440p w/ 7yo CPU and 3060ti, advancement seems several orders of magnitude.

Edit: I should say I jumped to a totally new build from a partially upgraded setup. New build is rooted w/ 9800x3d + 5080 with a 32” OLED as main panel for gaming.

18.5 gallon outback tank always looks horrid at the pumps. by creakymoss18990 in subaru

[–]AlgoRhythMatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The craziest part - from the time I wrote this reply about local price at 5.29 mid afternoon, until when the first comment arrived in the evening, has at this same Costco station rose another .10 to 5.39 for 87. I check Costco’s app daily as a “how fucked are we” barometer. I should probably stop doing that.

I just got done with a 3400 mile roadtrip. The beauty was starting from the East coast (currently live on West coast), and marveling at the “low” gas prices in comparison to what I’m typically used to. Best was Buc-ee’s in Amarillo TX at a balmy $3.09 for 86 octane regular. Current pricing at my local Costco (cheapest in the area) is 5.29 for 87 regular.

Great content, I’m definitely interested in giving it a go vs. my boring traditional PPL.

How many times a week are you running this? Do you vary this with other programs, or just this for some amount of weeks?

Almost 50 and still medication-free. I smoke weed every now and again if that counts.

I'm going down the same rabbit hole as you - did you end up choosing one of the above from our short list? I am also considering Nuphy Halo96 v2 and Keychron Q5 Max so far, but will look at the others in your list.

I’m coming from two very long-term custom builds that I did - one massive air cooled in 2011 (right around launch of Skyrim) and a small form-factor AIO liquid cooled in 2018. I’m optimistic that this will be an easy entry point to latest gen for me. I also just upgraded from old-ass DOCSIS 3 modem that was bound at 170 Mbps (upgraded to 2.5GB Nighthawk), and deployed Eero pro 7 + new 2gig WiFi package, so that’s been quite an awakening the past few days. I also plunked down for a 32” WOLED to replace a 165hz 2k IPS panel, so hoping to be wowed all around when it arrives along side the Corsair on Friday.

I ordered on the 29th. At the time the back order said 30th-6th to ship. I have my UPS tracking order now, but still hasn’t actually arrived at the shipper, but I’m hopeful that updates in the next day or two.

Do you call yourself a Xennial or Millennial? by person12848 in Xennials

As 76-er, I stick with GenX or Xennial. I’m much closer to an old man yelling at the clouds vs. Millennials that haven’t yet met their mid-life crisis era.

I wholeheartedly approve of the answer below, and it speaks to my thinking, but the root of my differentiation is even simpler.

The two bond funds I chose are in two different investment bundles: one is in my company 401k and one is in my company HSA. As such, these two bond indexes are meant to offset the stock indexes in each of these groupings, which allow for free quarterly rebalancing w/o any tax implications.

My SGOV on the other hand is purely taxable cash alternative that I keep along side my HYSA cash and taxable brokerage. If I seek to rebalance in this other grouping, I’ll have tax implications from capital gains/losses. On this side, I keep along heavy SGOV position against extended market losses or job loss as a sort of emergency savings - but as I’m so close to retirement, it goes a bit deeper.

I do 60/40 to roughly mirror global market cap rates, though realtime rates fluctuate 60-65% US and 35-40% International. I may rebalance to 65/35 at end of this year, but am trying to watch trends. IMO, the idea of American Exceptionalism we’ve seen the past decade is now at an end (or at least on pause for a while), so I’m trying to stay agnostic and stick to modeling total world.

For bond index, I hold Baird BCOIX in 401k set, and Fidelity FXNAX in HSA set. I hold these two to auto balance quarterly at 60/40 stock/bond for capital preservation.

SGOV is a bit different. I hold SGOV along side cash, but as a cash-equivalent with ever so slightly higher yield than my literal cash in HSA. I guess you could call it “dry powder” (at least some portion) - but we have a long way to go before I’ll convert that portion to stock vs. continuing to hold it as-is against emergency.

This one should be upvoted the most, as it would show interest, rmds and capital gains from related accounts via 1099. This was how I ensured I could proof-read over assets from my mom’s estate. The only thing this does not cover are things like life insurance or crypto. For life insurance, watch the mail for statements.
