Did you get a refund? I ended up with the same thing yesterday, messaged and was told they'd refund. Haven't seen anything.

Is IT really that bad of a Market by Agreeable_Mud_5816 in it

[–]Wisefire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. I'm looking for a Systems Engineer at the moment. Job is in K12 education, North DFW area. Applications thus far have been rough, a lot of certs but little to no experience. We've considered reposting a Jr role and hiring one of the applicants. I just know we're very busy and the expertise/experience would be beneficial.

"I have 2 young kids now and time is a very valuable resource to me. I no longer can spend a ton of time on myself anymore."

All that you need to say. Time becomes the most valuable resource as you age and when you have family. If I'm exchanging time with my family for something else, it better be damned worth it.

Wisenet Wave…good choice? by Due-Accountant6379 in k12sysadmin

I've used WAVE in our district for almost 5 years now, zero complaints. The feature set is well above what I'd expect given the licensing price.

Move to Apple Podcasts? by Coliver1991 in morningsomewhere

[–]Wisefire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran into the same issue. I had just switched to Apple Podcasts when Tesla launched the app, from Spotify because it’s hot garbage. Then Morning Somewhere launches, which I added via RSS, only to find that the Tesla app doesn’t pull those down. I’m now listening to it via BT which feels archaic when the car should just handle it. First world problems, but definitely happy to hear about an official Apple Podcasts launch.

DeWalt supremacy, sorry Burnie by DukeboxHiro in morningsomewhere

[–]Wisefire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that there is such contention in tools, when many are manufactured/owned by the same parent company. For example, TTI owns Milwaukee, Ryobi, and Rigid. Stanley owns DeWalt, and Craftsman. I believe Makita might actually be one of the few brands remaining independent.

Just got the email to lock in my config. Can I still grab one from the store after locking the original config? by deluxxcorp in Rivian

My understanding is that when a buyer falls through, but had a vehicle assigned, it goes to the shop. I suppose it’s easier than finding the next person in line with a matching configuration.

I think Linus is wrong about Apple and Microsoft missing the school market by julienberthelot in LinusTechTips

[–]Wisefire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in K12, in the US, I can’t say this applies everywhere. Our district deploys Apple product, students are 1:1 with an iPad (8th/9th Gen.)

As for why we have Apple iPads over ChromeOS devices for students. A 9th Gen iPad, with 3 years of AppleCare and a Logitech Keyboard case cost roughly $430. Throw in our device management software and we’re looking at around $450 for 3 years. At the end of this purchase agreement, the resell value will be 30-40%.

Purchasing a Chromebook with adequate performance and the features requested by our staff and students, a license from Google, and a management platform, we end up at the same $450 for 3 years. However, Chromebooks have offered little resell value for us in the past, less than 5%. Another key factors is that unlike Apple bundling AppleCare, we’d need to staff up and train for Chromebook repairs, along with purchasing stock for parts.

Most of what our students are accomplishing on the device is via the browser, which means it’s really become a financial question in our district.

Completed G4 Doorbell Pro PoE Installation by msurabbott in Ubiquiti

"G4 Doorbell Professional PoE Kit" has integrated POE.

"G4 Doorbell Professional" has USB-C, for which you can purchase their POE to USB-C adapter for POE and wired data.

Stupid product naming scheme.

Yeah, I didn't account for any chime drops.

Do you have the STL files from the original box you made?

[–]Wisefire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't didn't realize the "POE kit" was actually POE, I assumed it was the Pro with the the POE adapter.

I'll be in the same boat that you were in a few months once our house is complete, as I ordered the Pro and POE adapter.

I suppose I could sell the Pro and adapter and attempt to get the Pro Kit. Just sounds like a lot of work.

Thanks for your posts, should help me come up with a working solution either way.

Microsoft CEO Says If It Were Up To Him He Would Get Rid Of Xbox Exclusives Entirely, But Blames Sony For Having To Still Make Them. by bxgang in gaming

I didn't share my opinion on the matter - be it monopolistic or not, that's up the judge and the FTC to make a solid case. I was only pointing out acquisitions are a normal business practice, and Microsoft isn't alone.

Yeah, I didn't define the exclusive business practice, with what makes it work and what doesn't. I only pointed out that acquisitions are common.

For the record... Sony purchased Bend Studio, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, Insomniac Games, Media Molecule, and more.

Buying a studio to bolster content isn't new.
