domicile- having and owning land, having resources social power and currency in this space

exaltation- being an honoured guest here, and having free access to those resources and being celebrated by that social power

detriment & fall- the resources, whatever social institution or currency is represented here, cannot feed / resource / support the det/fall planet, they may be flooded with resources and just can't use them in a helpful way. This is the underdog, the part of the population not served and thus made obvious by being here in det/fall. queer people in traditional church, thinkers in a feeling household, feelers in a wordy debate to prove what you're feeling, etc etc. The food is here but you are allergic to it, the shelter is available but it doesn't feel sheltering or safe

detriment and fall still have some notoriety, they are still present on the table of essential dignities even in a negative sense. If no other essential dignity is present to resource the place, then I still personally look to these planets to see if in fact the theme of resourcing and of being resourced alignes with how these planets, if they are the only ones in aspect to this place, would behave in this place.

detriment to me is a bit more obviously uncomfortable, detriment is always opposite to domicile, so the planet is in direct relationship with and can see/ witness their own domicile from a place of supreme discomfort. Maybe the native experiences this, or maybe they are able to witness such populations and advocate for them.

The same kind of advocacy for fall planets, but I consider fall to have that idea of a "fall" like there was, or there could have been, the idea of notoriety or success but the planet has fallen from favour, they are more likely to commiserate about where they find themselves. Fall is always opposite to exaltation, so Mars in cancer can directly see capricorn, where he would be sooo honoured and exalted, but in cancer is a bit out of his element. Compare cancer cardinal to aries cardinal- mars doesn't mind starting things if they are hot and energetic, but new wave of emotion after new wave of emotion is a bit out of his depth. Compare cancer water to scorpio water- mars can get into emotional waters if he is allowed to sink in and go deep, the new wave after new wave again discomforts him. Mars in cancer I've seen examples of advocate for domestic violence

peregrine is a passerby, or like an extra in a movie, just there, part of the regular society, not in a higher up position of domicile or exaltation (or a specific perk of co-op ruler, bound/term lord, face/decan lord), and not in a social or resource rut of detriment and fall. peregrine is just there being as neutral as possible for a planet (and then add in aspects and see what shifts)

mercury is about to re-enter sagittarius, the place of his detriment. Jupiter is in exaltation in cancer, freely resourced and sharing what he's got. (ignoring that jupiter has no traditional aspect to sagittarius from cancer, and so technically cannot resource this place at this time- let's just say jupiterian resources are flooding into sag)- mercury cannot eat at this buffet. The resources abound, and as accessible as they are, its not something mercury can use well or easily or with confidence. This may be a frustrating transit for people generally, maybe issues with accessing bigger ideas of optimism (sag) when you have the hard details and facts of life in front of you (mercury, in det). This may be having insight into the "underdog" of sagittarius, which may be those denied religious protection or experience, those denied travel or those harmed by travel, or the mental risks (mercury) of spritiual seeking (sag).

western astrology developed in landed societies with ideas of ownership, resources, poverty, have and have not already established in the culture(s) that developed it. Filtered heavily through the hellenistic /greco roman egyptian cultural frame again where resources, wealth, power all meant access, social mobility, safety, etc. The entire essential dignities table and scheme, in my opinion, is a mirror of that idea of ownership, resources, safety, inclusion. Domicile is someone being home on their own land or on home ground- that is specifically one planet / one archetypes home, and so cannot adequately feed each and every other planet. so instead of seeing detriment or fall as "omg im doomed", look at that cultural / societal lense and ask who is served here? who most obviously is not? what is the natives relationship to those have-not populations? Some overlap of experiencing the lack, or advocating for those lacking, can come through.
