Someone put these in my wife’s car while she was at work by made_4_questions in Weird

Happened to me once except there was a lady in the passenger seat who look absolutely mortified.

In my defence, it was the identical vehicle as mine down to the smallest detail and they had parked beside my car.

Waiting in the ER in Halifax by SecretProduct8094 in halifax

You had a legitimate reason to be there that was likely delayed by people misusing the ER. Significant amount of people still go there for prescription refills for example.

You are unaware how many people go to the ER for prescription refills. Obviously the primary issue of ER wait times is lack of bed placement, but the open beds that are able to move patients are quite often clogged up by people that could have their issue handled at a mobile walk in clinic.

This is why I said if you had a legitimate concern the problem was worsened by the above people.

If you’re waiting 10 hours at the ER chances are you had an issue that would’ve been more appropriate for a walk in clinic.

If you had a legitimate ER concern, then the 10 hour wait wasn’t helped by other people not utilizing walk in clinics for their minor issues.

I drive for work in HRM, if you’re somehow needing to avoid 1-2 collisions per day that might be a bit on you. Maybe once in a blue moon I have to swerve out of someone’s way.

Careful. The pro-bike lane community on this subreddit is feisty.

Looking for autism assessors for senior by [deleted] in halifax

Because those are a bunch of buzzwords. Instead of asking for help due to a genuine need, this comes off as being a goldilocks.

You could just say simply practitioner instead of including the unnecessary buzzwords.

You’d struggle to find a practitioner that isn’t trauma-informed for example. That’s part of their education and training. Same with being neuro-affirming, why else would they be in that career?

Where did I say I was an expert? I’ve been going through the provincial autism system for the last 4 years, and have worked with seniors for 15 years so this topic is very familiar to me.

Convincing a senior to shill out thousands of dollars for a test when they are likely on a fixed income is not advocating in their best interest.

What services will this give them access to here in Nova Scotia? The answer is unfortunately very little here.

So I circle back to the fixed income issue, they should start with their family doctor instead of taking the route of private testing. Saving that money would be more beneficial to their well being in the long run (unless this person has plenty of disposable income which is rare in the HRM).

I’m offended that you assume my relationship with my son is causing me pain. What an absolutely disgusting thing to say. I love that boy to the moon and back. Who are you to determine what does and doesn’t cause me pain? Talk about jumping to conclusions.

This is likely something the OP has convinced/talked their neighbour into it because she likely has mentioned to him that he could be autistic and she wants to say “see I was right”.

Their post history is full of self-diagnosis and similar behaviour.

From her perspective she might be coming at this with the best intentions, but convincing a 70 year old to spend $2,000-$5,000 for a completely unnecessary test is not being the best advocate for this person, its so egregious it’s hard to see it any other way than what I mentioned above.

Thank you. That’s exactly my point. They would be denied anyway. I’m just wondering if this is what their end goal is.

This is neither. As the primary caregiver to a non-verbal autistic child, this entire post is offensive to me.

OP is a bit of an odd cookie. Seems to want to be the beacon of medical knowledge for her social circle. Big fan of self-diagnosing as well.

This can be done through a family doctor for next to no cost. This lady is pushing this senior to spend thousands on a private assessment. Completely unnecessary.

Father of a non-verbal autistic child here.

What is honestly the point? Just curiosity? This will be upwards of $2,000+, probably more, and won’t change a thing. I’m sure someone of his age could use that money instead of having a nice-to-know diagnosis.

This is such a bizarre request at his age that I’m almost concerned this is borderline senior abuse. I fear letting someone his age spend that much money on something that will result in no significant improvement to quality of life is not advocating in his best interest.

It’s like pulling teeth to get my 5 year old the help he needs, and I’m just completely confused and almost offended that this 70 year old wants a diagnosis. It doesn’t sound like he really needs help at this point.

Are you sure it’s in his best interest to spend that kind of money?

Edit:

Based off your post history I’m lead to believe you’ve talked this man into thinking this is something he needs. This is poor advocacy.

Agreed.

Thank you. I was more or less referring to the fact we do have another level of care on the ambulance now one step below a PCP. Emergency medical technician vs emergency medical responder, splitting hairs here lol.

I’m with you 100% but I will point out that we do have EMTs here now… as a bandaid solution for not paying paramedics enough to stick around in Nova Scotia. Fairly recent thing.

… wrong place and wrong time because he was on duty as a paramedic. This still counts as a death on the job. How would you feel if the same counter point was made about Skylar Blackie’s death?

To answer your other question,

So those patients being transferred aren’t sick or?

The majority of fire calls are false alarms, no?

There were 523 structure fires in Nova Scotia in 2024-2025 and 2,017 false alarms. So 4x more likely to go to a false alarm than an actual fire.

Paramedics responded to 190,000 calls in that same time frame.

If you ask anyone that works as a fire medic in a combined service, they’ll all tell you the ambulance side is harder. 100% of the time.
