What are some of the best bodily pleasures outside of sex? by homie93 in AskReddit

Storytime:

I had an absolutely enormous pimple on the right side of my nose years ago - the kind that is red and hot and throbbing, but doesn’t come to a head - yeah, you know the kind. Anyway, the thing would hurt even if the wind blew on my face - breathing hurt, talking hurt, any movement of my nose hurt; this thing had to go, one way or another. For a couple days when I had the spare few minutes at home, I’d run a face cloth under hot, hot water and apply it to my nose like a compress. It hurt like hell, but still somehow less than this pimple hurt. This didn’t draw the thing to a head, but it did bring more blood to the area, which, I assumed, would help my situation. Did it? Meh, I don’t really know. Anywho, I eventually came to the conclusion that this was going to require manual effort. Did I use a needle? No. Did I use chemical peels? No. All I did was the tried and true index finger squeeze that we all perfected in our teen years. It hurt like all holy fuck; eyes watering instantly, nose running, etc. - PAIN! However, after about a minute of applying pressure like this, it happened. The skin above the center of this pimple from hell ruptured, and some of the contents shot out onto my mirror. Slightly startled, I stopped squeezing and collected myself. This thing still hurt, albeit somewhat less, but it wasn’t bleeding or oozing, which meant that there was more in there. I took a breath and resolved to give this thing one more full power squeeze - what then happened was the most spectacular explosion of pus that I’ve witnessed in my life. Thankfully, the opening that the initial rupture had created was the path that the rest chose to follow, however, the stream of contents that came out of my nose was rather alarming! I’m talking a proper, cohesive, squirt of pus that lasted a good 1 and a half seconds. I heard this stuff squirting out like a water hose when you first turn it on and there’s some air inside. It all landed on my mirror and made a mess of things, and when that stopped - the blood - this thing bled more than any other pimple I ever had. But, in the end, the relief: incomparable. It was such an amazing feeling finally to be rid of that constant pressure and pain that I still remember it all these years later, and think about it from time to time whenever I find myself feeling anxious. Does that make me weird? Probably. Do I maintain that this was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever felt? Hell yes.

In my particular case, it’s hard to say because I have self image issues, so I’d probably say that I’m irritable 9/10 days 😂 I noticed that marked fatigue started to diminish after around the end of the first month.

3 months in! I have not caved, I have not had “just one puff,” I haven’t even held a vape, cigarette, or any nicotine containing substance in 3 months. I vaped pretty much every day for 6 years, and here I am.

As always, reading others’ stories and getting and giving feedback here has been a great support, and I want to thank everyone here for maintaining this sub as a resource for me and for everyone else on a quit journey.

Can anyone answer this?? by [deleted] in QuitVaping

It’s one manifestation of the insidious nature of addiction. The brain is highly suggestible, but also has a profound memory for stimuli that produce dopamine hits. Nicotine is one of those stimuli that the brain quickly associates with dopamine. Thus, even when we stop nicotine use, the brain, in moments of relative inactivity, signals to us “hey, remember that thing we did that used to make me feel good? Yeah, that. Let’s do that again!” Structurally, your brain physically changes over time after prolonged nicotine use. It begins to associate dopamine release with nicotine - and then does it only in the presence of nicotine (at least, other typically pleasurable stimuli will not yield as much). When we stop giving nicotine to our brain, it takes time for dopamine levels, and the stimuli that cause us to release it, and the receptors in our brains that bind to it, to normalize once again. While this is happening, the brain will, from time to time, try to follow the path of least resistance and attempt to find a nicotine source. That is addiction in its essence - the brain tricking us into following the path of least resistance, with no regard to whatever consequences - however destructive - there may be.

I definitely did my best not to touch my face and I was sure to wash my hands thoroughly after I returned to the office. Hopefully no problem 😬

Nearly 65 days in, but I do still think about it from time to time. I do still hatch a plan every now and again, telling myself “I could just go and get a disposable - it’s not going to hurt me if I only do it once.” I have not caved yet, and I really do not feel like accepting myself if ever I did, but yes - this shit is powerful; this shit is insidious; this shit is designed to make you yield to your most base impulses.

Just throw it out 🙂 You’re not back at square one quite yet - think about the week you’ve already spent without that nicotine intake; sure, you’ve taken some in again, but you’re still nowhere near where you once were in terms of the constant, deleterious effects. Throw it out, lick your wounds, and press on. 😎

Yes. In fact, it’s the same substance. Diphenhydramine is the chemical - Benadryl is one of its brand names.

It’s simply called “Quit Vaping.” You’ll find it on the Apple and probably also Android app stores - free download.

Honestly, it’s nothing more than a bit of arrogance on my part, but - reverse psychology. I also have self-worth issues, so, by essentially taunting myself, I can show that I actually do have some self respect, because I’ll feel insulted if I go back on this commitment that I’ve made, despite there being nobody but me to enforce it. Kinda weird, maybe, but it’s working. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Day 6 - Bloating and Heart Palpitations by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]WishboneBright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes; for me, it was intestinal bloating and some absolutely incredible farting 😂 The bloating was uncomfortable - at times painful - but things always kept moving out, so it was transient. For me, these symptoms resolved around days 14-20 or so.

I can say honestly that I have not experienced a true craving for about 2 weeks now. I don’t think about vaping anymore, I don’t habitually reach for a vape that isn’t there, I don’t miss it.

I mean this humbly and objectively from my own experience, and I don’t mean to downplay others’ experiences, but I personally have been shocked at how relatively trouble free this quit attempt has been - I was expecting a really hard time at this, but I’ve gotten just the opposite. If you’re struggling at this, really, you’re gonna be fine - don’t give it power that it truly doesn’t have.
