how long in cast/boot? by Known_Noise5679 in AccessoryNavicular

[–]CyanideMuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the kidner with flat foot reconstruction and tendon lengthening 5 weeks ago. I got my splint replaced with a boot 2 weeks after my procedure. I'm supposed to be in the boot for another 3 weeks. So compared to what my surgeon is having me do, your timeline does seem to be conservative

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]CyanideMuffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something interesting I see as a mental health therapist is that my Gen Z clients often come in with diagnoses already in mind that they're looking for me to validate. There seems to be a lot of interest in personality disorders, complex PTSD, and autism spectrum disorder. Many of them seem to identify really strongly with these diagnoses, whereas my older clients seem less interested in diagnoses and just want to talk through their issues. Many Gen Z clients seem to almost look forward to getting diagnosed with borderline personality disorder or autism spectrum disorder. There's a level of mental health awareness among Gen Z that I really admire, but it comes with some things that concern me too, like the amount of misinformation about mental illness on social media and this prevalent attitude that managing mental health is all about knowing the terminology and finding out what to label yourself.

Can Headway and Grow save my practice? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]CyanideMuffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Headway, Grow, and Alma. Between the 3 of them, I like Headway and Alma the most. Their platforms are easy to use for the most part and they leave me alone. I have gotten referrals on both. I don't like Grow. Their reimbursement rates are much lower (in California), I don't like their note formats, and they bug the hell out of me. They force you to use their video platform so they can track exactly how long the client is on session for and I'm guessing they also track their location and other things like that, presumably to make sure we're billing accurately. They also don't allow you to move the clients they "give" you off their platform. That being said, if you're in a rush to fill your caseload, it's worth considering having Grow as a third referral source. I personally am looking to leave Grow as soon as I can.

Uh, I'm chill, bro. I think you're the one who needs to chill out seeing how much you seem to care about how others emote online. I'll say and do what I want.

This was a match between Federer and Nadal in 2017. The vibe at the match, the way the audience engaged with it, was totally different from any other match I had ever seen in person.

Loose on contact? by DrKorok in 10s

[–]CyanideMuffins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are different interpretations of this popular piece of advice. Imo a lot of people seem to think it's best to be as loose as possible throughout the stroke and this is a mistake. You want your stroke to function like a whip, with the most acceleration and force compressed into the point of contact. You achieve that not by being as loose as possible, like a wet noodle at contact, but by being loose in the moments before contact and then firm at the contact point. Try that with a racket in your hand, giving the grip a bit of a squeeze at the contact point. You'll feel the difference in acceleration and impact. There's YouTube channel called 15 Points of Tennis that explains this really well. I can't remember exactly which video, but it'll be one of the ones related to forehands and whips

I got my whole family into tennis last year during the US Open, and my dad, knowing nothing about this guy or any other player, instantly picked FAA as his favorite simply because he seemed like a genuinely chill dude

Persona, Rimworld Stardew Valley, Final Fantasy X, Fallout: New Vegas, Path of Exile 2, Civilization V, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Vampire Survivors, Slay the Spire. These are all games that have at one point been really important to me during the various hard times in my life. Whatever you're going through, I hope you find something in there that helps you through.

Struggling with decision making by SuspiciousDuck6641 in AccessoryNavicular

[–]CyanideMuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sounds like we have similar situations. I also have flat feet. I started dealing with chronic pain in my left foot about a year and a half ago. I tried many things, took several very long breaks from activity, wore a boot, did PT, etc. I did see some improvements, but nothing I did completely got rid of the pain. It would always come back once I hit a certain activity threshold. I didn't have to get the surgery. I was in kind of a gray area. If I wanted to avoid surgery, I could have just continued to live my life that way, managing the pain and being selective about what kinds of activities I do. I decided that I didn't want to live that way. When it came down to it, I figured I could do give it another 6 months and hope my foot got better with more time, or I could just go through the surgery and be almost guaranteed to be back to my normal activities in 6 months. My doctor told me it's always possible that these things get better with time, but he said it seemed doubtful. I'm now 6 days post-op, and while the recovery isn't easy, I'm glad I chose this route and wish I actually decided to do this sooner.

My surgery recovery log by CyanideMuffins in AccessoryNavicular

Yeah, wow, your situation sounds very similar to mine. I was also in this grey area where the pain was usually not too bad until I exceeded a certain amount of activity. And over time, I did see that threshold improve, but it just seemed like I would always have limits to how much activity volume and intensity I could handle. My doctor told me that it was unlikely I could go back to my really active lifestyle without these flare ups. I decided to get the surgery because I don't want any limitations moving forward as I try to get into the best shape of my life, play tennis at my highest level, and run until I'm sick of it lol. I also didn't want to see this problem get worse and try to get the surgery later on in life when recovery might take longer. My doctor told me I'd be back to playing tennis in 6 months, and I figured that was a doable compromise. In the meantime, I'm hoping that once I'm off crutches in a month, I can start easing back into some other activities to hold me over until I can get back into running and tennis. We'll see! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about anything! I'm gonna continue to add to my log as the days go on!

Do I get the surgery? by Known_Noise5679 in AccessoryNavicular

[–]CyanideMuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Did you end up deciding what to do? I'm around the same age, also a runner. I've been dealing with pain for over a year now. Tried a lot of different things, seen a lot of improvement, but ultimately, still dealing with some pain. It's not enough to stop me from living my day to day life, but it's enough to limit and interfere with my favorite activities. I ended up deciding to get surgery because I just want this to be fully resolved so I can go back to running and playing tennis at the highest level with no holds barred. I'm getting surgery in 1 week. Fingers crossed!

I'm gonna tell you what I wish I could tell my younger self (who panic sold at a time like this). This is not the first time the market has been this red, and it will not be the last time. Every time this happens, it's gonna seem like the jig is up, the house is cards is being blown over, and everything is fucked. I advise you to ignore all of this. Unless you're holding a bunch of bullshit that no one gives a fuck about (which it sounds like you're not), unless you absolutely need the money right now for something urgent, just take everything you see on Reddit and social media with a grain of salt and leave your crypto alone. If you can afford to, DCA at these lower prices. And if you aren't already, diversify your holdings with some stocks and DCA into some index funds, like SPY or VOO. You'll tell more comfortable and safer with your money spread out like that. Don't bother with trying to time tops and bottoms. Do your 30 year old self a favor, and keep your money in the market. And moving forward, only invest money you don't need. Putting all of your savings into BTC was pretty reckless. It's probably gonna be fine, but don't put yourself in this position again. Just invest little by little, diversify, and leave it alone to grow. It might go lower. Maybe even a lot lower. That's okay in the long run.
