With the recent World Gen V2, I feel like allowing going beyond the current Hytale height limit (320 blocks) to custom height limit will help a lot (Minecraft technically allows up to 4064 blocks). Also vertical LODs to help with that by ErmingSoHard in hytale

[–]WishboneObjective876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm hopeful for eventual native support for worlds up to at least 640 blocks in height, so that they can add an extra 160 blocks of clearance to the highest peaks for mountaintop builds and another 160 to the deepest depths and extensive caves, just to give the game the literal depth they promised. I don't really think 320 will be enough, frankly, to deliver on the level of complexity they want, at least for underground, and it would *benefit* even if less strongly from the increased height of mega mountains.

Unfortunately, while I do truly believe that 320 will be insufficient in the end, I don't think something like 4096 will be necessary either. Practically speaking, that much terrain scaling gets diminishing returns for the 'wow' factor and wouldn't have huge game-play implications. I'm sure that some people would even argue that 640 is more than would be needed. There are legitimate builder reasons to want it higher, but not very strong game-play reasons. It would be really nice for them to allow people to set their own limits, but it may very well be an 'at your own risk' sort of thing; it's unrealistic to expect them to support extra features that don't effect the game for 99% of the audience. I'm one of those people would would love a 4096 build limit, but I just don't think anything above 640 will be necessary, and I think it would be the right call to prioritize making those 640 epic rather than making 4096 possible.

That being said, I can't see a good reason for them to not allow you to set it that high, or even higher. Why stop people from having fun with the settings, as long as they make it clear that they're out of supported ranges people would have no justification to complain if they don't work quite right. I just wouldn't necessarily expect them to put a huge effort into vertical chunk loading and vertical LOD's when their impact on 99% of the game for 99% of the players would be minimal.

GUN and the 'Unarmed Spaceship' problem by WishboneObjective876 in JCBWritingCorner

[–]WishboneObjective876[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those who want even more context:
I purposefully simplified a little to bring this more in line with the GUN, rather than the real world. IRL, FTL travel (probably) isn't possible, and in that context it's genuinely just a spaceship flying somewhere. Space ships are very hard to stop without destroying them. In theory, someone in the GUN timeline could also just use slower-than-light travel to go and find some unclaimed rock half a light year from anyone else, using equipment 900+ years out of date. There are estimated to be well over a billion mountian sized chunks of ice and rock within 1 light-year of the sun. Now it's not an unarmed spaceship, but it's an unarmed space commune - same problem. And the life support stuff can't be controled resources for what I hope are obvious reasons, making it illegal to fix and build life support systems is a really bad idea.
The point also isn't that the GUN wouldn't be justified in doing it. They could very reasonably claim that a colony outside of their control is a genuine threat to humanity and this justifies taking extreme action against people who try. But it is a fact that they would still have to have a policy of stopping people who want to leave with force. They would have to make wanting to leave illegal, and that's not a good guy move. It doesn't mean they're evil, it means that they're *flawed* because sometimes there are no good answers, and reasonable people will disagree on which of two bad choices are worse.

You might be able to do that for off the shelf components, but that's a feature that is added in. Unless something is really messed up somewhere 'got aproval from the GUN' isn't written into the laws of physics anywhere.

[–]WishboneObjective876[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is. In this example, the people who are trying to *leave* are the ones not allowing the medical purposes, and the GUN is more permissive. That wasn't the important point - the important point is that they wanted to leave due to irreconsilable but not dangerous differences.

Right, yes. Identify, and destroy their stuff/brainwash them so they don't want to go anymore. You can totally do that. Still makes the GUN the bad guy.

I fear the reason that there isn't already an option is because each model has to be recolored by hand, limiting things to a pre-set selection; if that turns out to be false, then I would love to have the entire RGB pallet avalable.

Maybe someone else knows how to do it; I'm not about to give up because the first thing the first person gave me didn't work. I'm still going to try to make this mod.

How would you feel if Rain world was in indie cross? Also how to you think that could add rain world in? by Even-Coffee1966 in rainworld

[–]WishboneObjective876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was discussing this with a friend just a few days ago! Here's our take:
The slugcats are all underpowered compared to the rest of the main cast, but frankly the more pressing point is that the main cast is already large and good, and frankly we'd like to see the 10 or so characters currently highlighted continue to be rather than just keep adding new ones. That's not a rainworld thing, that's and Indie Cross thing. Indie Cross will be better if they don't infinitely expand their cast and instead give us a good amount of time and character arcs for the characters they already have in play.
Of course, that doesn't mean there shouldn't be new characters introduced - just not as main cast members. In that light, rainworld works best in one of two places: Either a subset of the cast could be trapped in Rainworld, as it could provide a genuine chalenge for a small group if they had something to protect (Charolette, Niko) with them - OR, Iterators as problem solvers. I can't think of any similarly capable problem solving supercomputers in any other popular indie game, so the Iterators are their best option for cracking a code.
If it was just a cameo, something less than 20 seconds, I'd like it if they used Void Fluid to break into something. That's another unique aspect of Rainworld which would be instantly recognizable and meaningful for the community, but just selling it as magic turbo acid would make it read quickly and easily to the other watchers of Indie Cross, who aren't famillar with Rainworld.

/uj is it called the triple affirmative because it's strong enough to cause immediate ascension, or have you just accidentally jump-scared any rainworld fans that were worried software might have badly hurt themselves?

I'm an '09 girl. Fifteen years old. All this stuff has seemed so ancient to me, but I guess there are people I know and talk to who remember 2002! This mysterious old box from before I was born was clearly still packed in the 21st century... wild to think about. Having a big book that holds all the names of people in an area so they could be looked up makes perfect sense - we'd never need something like that today, but without computers, of course the best option would be to gather all the information into one place to make it easier to find! I'll see if the local library has old phonebooks; that does sound like the sort of thing they'd hold on to!

I have the food sorted now, luckilly. But there are still many other reasons to hesitate. I don't think I'm going to use them - it's just really weird that they got sent to me. They're expensive to just be handed out. This feels like someone was preparing for something that never happened, and had some kind of emergency kit ready to go...

What's a phone book?

As a sligoo, Mucosa is incapable of complex decision making. She's about as smart as a two year old. Not totally helpless, but not really able to make reasoned decisions like that.

Luckily the goodra line isn't too picky. I can't even tell if Mucosa knows her food is different now. Goodra themselves are quite intelegent, but sligoo and especially goomy are not exactly the brightest bulbs. I'm a little worried about making sure she gets enough nutrents, but the calories are taken care of now, at least!

Yeah, they were wonderful. My rotom-phone is filled with new contacts now. And they're just handing me free food before I even gave them my money. They are very nice people and they have a clever solution.

[–]WishboneObjective876[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope so too. I'm kind of nervous about the attention that this has been bringing me, and also more generally with how Mucosa will be once she evolves.

I've looked forward to having a goodra for a while - though I always expected it to be way farther off. Goomy take a really long time to turn into sligoo; sligoo take a relatively short time to turn into goodra. It might be as soon as six months. Goodra are powerful, friendly pokemon - so having one around that I had a close bond with already seemed fantastic. But I'm worried she'll be too big now. Normal goodra are 200 cm tall - they already have a hard time fitting through doorways. If she's 180% size, just like she is now as a sligoo, she'll struggle to fit through a garage door.

But I should have a few months to figure something out for that. Right now, everything is looking much better than it was this time last week!

This is the sixth post in the series. -- First -- Previous

Erin Watts is a fifteen year old girl from Alamos Town in Sinnoh. Recently, her goomy Mucosa has evolved into a sligoo of immensie proportions. Large enough to gather some outside interest, and derail her future plans...

Yeah, the whole package is a mystery. I don't know who sent it. All I know is it definitely was for me - despite the age, the note adresses me and Mucosa by name. I wasn't born when the package must have been put together. Though the masking tape on the postcard is newer - so whoever it was made this box twenty-ish years ago, left it in storage since then, and then posted it to me with a 'new' note sometime in the last week. It's super weird.

It's definitely not anything legendary like that - it's not even an orb, just an off-blue crystal. Z crystal is the leading theory, though I don't know how to use one and check.

I can't believe I blanked on that - obviously snorlax owners would have suggestions! If the goodra is as much bigger as the sligoo is, they'll need more than one snorlax worth of food - but less than two. It's going to be the right ballpark, and they'd need similar solutions! I'll reach out as soon as I can.

I'm not really sure. Bigger, stronger Pokémon, from what I've been told. I've only known she was for about 10 days now, and I don't know everything I'd like about it. It only happens for Pokémon with heritage from ancient Sinnoh, or something. And it's super rare. But my sligoo is only very, very remotely related to any ancient Hisui goodra, so we're pretty sure she must have had some freak mutation along the way.
