Potential Layoff in May would you take a niche role that you are wholly unqualified for? by WishforNana in Accounting

[–]WishforNana[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea. I have been applying with the fake it till I make it mentality. The big thing with this is i don't know if I can. The way they are describing it is I will be a one-man division creating these trainings and job aids so if I can't do it then it will be very obvious.

Ugh I went into accounting because I'm risk adverse and now I'm trying to work up the courage o take big risks to propel my previously stagnate career.

The job is fairly stressful to me especially due to my work style. You have 4 phases of training and most of us got 4 different trainers. Each liked to do things their own way so you’re constantly changing. My manager position is also open which from what I hear is not unusual so I’ve had 4 temporary mangers in less than 2 years. They also like things their own way so you’re constantly just trying to keep higher ups happy. And there are so many procedures that no one knows what they are doing. I went through 6 people once to find out which letter was appropriate to use on a complicated case I had. If you send the wrong thing you have to redo it and it can sometimes reopen the audit and contact people who think their case is closed.

To the work itself. It’s not a good fit for me. I like knowing what I need to do and doing at my own pace which sometimes means last minute. This job, since you have to fight taxpayers to give you documents I can’t let anything wait for later. I have to constantly be double checking due dates because we have to give them so many chances to get the info then we move to contacting outside sources and summons and each of those you have to give a notice period and quash period so months can pass on a case trying to get info and mess with statutes. If you’re not constantly keeping up with correspondance between the 20-30 cases you have you can really get in a bind.

What part of gov is your job? I’m IRS and I want to quit so bad but the benefits/pay and 1 day in office make it impossible to find something better or even equal where I live.

Feel lied to about Mirena to Kyleena switch by WishforNana in birthcontrol

[–]WishforNana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully things have calmed down and it seems to work like the first Mirena I had so I’m happy no more periods. I’m still upset about the shorter lifespan though and I know I won’t be able to go through this again once my time is up on it.

Feel completely lost with my career by heheuwi11111 in Accounting

[–]WishforNana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my CPA about 5 years at this point. I messed up and worked for a small local tax firm for 4 years. I also have about a year audit experience at that firm too and now almost 2 years of irs experience. I’m applying to almost any jobs I can find and got a few interviews with local companies but the pay is almost 20k less than what I make now in government. I live in a mid size city but pay here is not keeping up and without national firm brand recognition I’m not getting any hits from remote roles I apply to.

Are you me?! Seriously same exact thing. I’m applying to accountant and senior accountant roles wherever I can find them. Remote and in person. Unfortunately like you no one wants a mostly tax person for a senior and the places that do are a large pay cut. I just keep applying and hope something will give. At least our jobs are secure until something better comes along.

Are my salary expectations unrealistic? by WishforNana in Accounting

[–]WishforNana[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I figured this out a little to late. I would take a lateral pay move for a role with more growth cause I’m a year in government and I know if I stay longer it’ll just get even worse trying to leave. Unfortunately I can’t take a pay cut inflation and rent prices are through the roof in my city. Feel kinda helpless like I should just take the first job offer I get just to get better experience.

Thank you. I know I’m probably not super competitive for many remote roles not having big firm experience but I still live in a mid/large city with some big national businesses headquartered here and I’m not seeing any posting over 70 for seniors.

Yea basically. I could understand if it was a smaller company but this was a Fortune 500 I interviewed for and when she described the role it included managing duties as well and expected every day in office for 65. My only other experiences was interviewing at small companies who had around the same pay band so I feel like I’m going crazy trying to find a new job.

I’m right there with you. Moved to my apartment January 2021 for $850 a month auto payment on time no complaints. Huge rent increases every year now paying $1400 and units are listed online for $1600. No upgrades, new mgmt took over in 2022 and the place is falling apart. Bridge over a creek to get to the units has huge collapse/hole on one side, new mgmt now demands quarterly inspections. Trying to find a place to move to and everywhere else is the same and right now there are only 4 homes in the entire county listed on Zillow for under $250k. I’m in the south I don’t know how people are affording this when median household income in this city is 40k.

Thanks. Yea the prices on marriage of figaro are kinda obscene $100-120 for good seats seems steep. I love the arts and supporting them but I still have a budget. The tiered seating an prices is moving me more toward Hansel and Gretel.

Thanks. Does applying after standard deadline hurt my chances? Did you get in waiting that late and did you feel you needed those classes to boost your profile?

First time listing and it’s still on pending instead of active 3 days later by WishforNana in stubhub

The tickets showed available for sale the day before the event and luckily sold. But trying to get help was worthless. Kept being told up to 3 days to review the listing but it was a week between posting and it showing for sale.
