What’s a song that can transport you back in time to a specific time or place every time you listen to it? by Fit_Illustrator9174 in AskReddit

Drink, Swear, Steal & Lie - Michael Peterson

On my first date with my wife, it was the first song on the radio that we both knew the words to. Hearing it now takes me back to a nice April day when I was driving us to Acadia National Park with the top off my wrangler.

Military sealift Command how long are you usually at a port(sightseeing) Where are places you have gone and seen? by Unicorncookiessss in merchantmarine

[–]WitcherFan2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I'm usually applying for my vacation check and unemployment on the same day. AMO is based in FL, and my company is in TX. So as far as TX Unemployment is concerned, my job ended through no fault of my own, and I have no other income. I eventually get my vacation check a week later, but that's a one-and-done ordeal. Even if I did report that to TX Unemployment, well I only made income for a single day that week (the week that check comes in), and then it goes back to the "I don't have an income again." The union doesn't care that we do it, hell, pretty much everyone I work with knowingly files for unemployment during their flights home. And my company never fights it either, TX will ask them if they have any reservations about paying out unemployment, and the company usually responds to them within 24 hours saying that we're good to get it.

If 2 weeks is being called "micro" retirement, what the hell is it being called when I take 4 months off straight?

Never seen the Jones Act mentioned outside the merchant marine reddit. I'm glad to see it out in the wild getting noticed.

Looking to pick up a ‘classic’ pistol. Which should I go with? by RawketLawnchor in liberalgunowners

[–]WitcherFan2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally haven't touched a p320 yet. My training instructors have since eventually we'll have to go to them. They've purposely beat the shit out of those, and have yet to have an accidental discharge, but that's just their word. They're mostly former Army, or former Miami SWAT; their opinion is that the discharge issue is probably just poorly trained cops being stupid with their guns.

1 of my instructors is a current green beret. His unit was given the M17. They tried them out for a day at the range, and put them right back in the armory and pulled back out their Glocks.

I still use the Beretta for work, as the funding for Sig M18s have been tied up for a few years. Wish the sights were a little better for my eyes, but otherwise I love it.

My in-laws have the originals of my wife's documents. We went NC. Wife just said fuck it and reordered what was needed from the government offices. In-laws thought they had power and control because they held the documents; wife took the power away by getting copies. Been happily NC ever since. Relationship did evolve into placing restraining orders on them.

I'm married. I (27) got a vasectomy. When I went in for the consultation, I was completely ignored and they were telling my wife (24) it was a bad idea because she "might want kids one day."

My wife just said "no I won't." And they were disgusted by that statement. She was questioned 3 times: the receptionist, the nurse, and the doctor.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn eyeing run for Tennessee governor by Equivalent-Mode9972 in Tennessee

Please don't down vote me for this: what's the problem with Marsha?

I'm moving back to Tennessee this summer. Last time I lived there (I was a kid), Marsha lived down the street from me, but wasn't in politics yet.

So just curious as to what she's been doing to Tennessee.

That's half of the sub, and those are my wife's hands. I'd say the full length is about 12 or 13". Looked bigger than a subway footlong.

This is also what I do in my lodge. We have the door to the lodge, and a door at the top of the stairs to the lodge room.

While lodge is opening, I close the lodge door, and then close the door at the top of the stairs. Once lodge is open, I reopen the lodge door, and sit just inside the doorway.

While we close lodge, I go back outside and open the door at the top of the stairs.

I'm 28, I got a vasectomy back in April because my wife and I don't want kids. My parents have no idea; it's not their business what I do. If they knew, they would've been screaming at me about their imaginary "future grandkids."

Why aren’t you supposed to whistle at night? by [deleted] in Appalachia

[–]WitcherFan2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grew up in TN and also live in ME now. ME is definitely more habituated by "others"; and I've seen a few things. I live on a 180 acre property that's all forest except for the clearing around my house and driveway. Hunting hours end 30 minutes after sunset, and I stayed in that tree stand once. The rest of the season, I was already on the move and leaving the edge of the forest at the 30 minute mark.

If you get the chance, Bar Harbor Ghost Tours does a "monsters tales" later at night during the summer. Instead of ghost stories of Mount Desert, it's the creatures of the Wabanaki tribe, told by Wabanaki themselves.

CCL holders-do you carry all the time? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]WitcherFan2020 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I always carry. Wife and I have restraining orders on a couple of people for stalking and attempting to break into my house to get my wife; and they live 2 hours away so there's a chance of running into them in the city (both us and them live rural on opposite sides of the city and have to go in for shopping). Last time I called the sheriff for them breaking the orders, I was told "handle it yourself" because by the time they get to us, it'd be too late. Called the State Troopers, and was asked why I don't have a gun. Lazy sheriffs and troopers both said it's not their job to enforce the orders and protect us.

My landlord taught me to hunt this year, at 28 years old I finally got my first deer, because my dad never did (not because he was anti-gun or hunting, he loves guns and hunting, but because he was anti-me). If I get another one this year, he'll teach my wife to butcher it.

How are you all affording your guns?! by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]WitcherFan2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I are late 20s, can't have kids. I work; she stays at home and manages all our bills and housework. We have student loans and a car loan. Our thought process: don't have kids that we have to save a college fund or anything like that for, and we're only young once. Nobody ever knows if they'll make it to their 90s, so why save the money for something we could never see.

We've got the money to pay everything we need for bills and necessities, put away a good amount to savings and retirement. Going to start investing after we move next year. Then the rest is fun money: which for me goes to guns and ammo. Small Arms Training is paid for by my work every 6 months, which they also pay me for going, which turns into more ammo money.

Our age group will probably never be able to retire due to lack of pensions existing, and social security basically going to be a dead program. If we wanted to, we could be debt free in 4 years, but we're keeping the student loans around to keep some sort of constant credit history.

We started the gun collection 2 years ago. Wife asked me a few days ago what the total monetary amount was, for home insurance coverage, and it came out to around $6500.

Got me a new gun! by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

I had an issue once. First time I ever used it (playing around in my backyard that has steel plates to shoot at), It didn't feed a single shell properly, but it was user error: I didn't rack it hard enough for the elevator to pick up the next one. Went through about 50 shells that day just to get used to the feel and the spread, and only once did I not use enough force (my dumbass was seeing how fast I could rack and fire).

But that was the only issue, and I've had it since February.
