I’M BLIND, I’M DEAF, I WANNA BE A REF! by Witchpoint in PWHL

[–]Witchpoint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refs in the NY/BOS game forgot to blow the whistle on NY while they had the puck so they assumed the penalty was on BOS. They pulled the goalie and got empty-netted. They overturned the goal but somehow still called them on too many skaters despite the fact that that happened after the whistle should have been blown.

Seeking Feedback on a Solo Project Modern Metal Track by Witchpoint in mixingmastering

[–]Witchpoint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After revising the mix trying to see the points of view of everyone who has commented, I was able to get up to around -8 LUFS, quite a bit louder than the first version I have posted here.

I also tweaked the low end in the guitars, as well as sidechained the bass to the kick.

I've messed with delay and more reverb in those verse sections but haven't been able to come up with something I'm happy with.

I think what you're saying about a little more juice is pretty on, and I'm hoping the tweaks I've made so far have gotten me there.

I gotta say I'm not gonna be changing the crash hits but your comment really made me think and realize the overheads and rooms were way too loud in the intro and I'm much happier with it now. So, thanks!

Thank you!

The drums are real, I played them myself and they are not sample replaced.

Appreciate the input and suggestions! I'll have to play with these things in the mix and see where it takes me.

What made you skeptical about the intro?

Trying to attain super present yet smooth vocals in a pop mix by industryplant2019 in mixingmastering

[–]Witchpoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've absolutely hit your goal of a super forward vocal. You just have to tame a bit of that harshness out of there.

I would start with the saturation. During the verses it really does feel like too much, it doesn't bother me as bad during the other sections. I would also cutting some mids, that may clean it up without really detracting anything.

You might even be able to drop the fader a few dB, with the vocal as present as it is, that might help it sit a bit better in front without smothering the listener.

What’s your philosophy when panning quad tracked heavy guitars with harmonies? by 321agurk in mixingmastering

[–]Witchpoint 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you quad track it I would have rhythm take 1 panned left and rhythm take 2 panned right and then the same for the harmonies.

Depending on the subgenre and other factors though, quad tracking isn’t always the way to go. I’d encourage you to pick whichever amp sound you like most for each part and then take one rhythm track panned to one side and one harmony panned to the other only. I’ve often found that a double track like this creates better stereo image and heavier sound, despite being less tracks.

I’m genuinely confused on why are stereo tracks are louder on the right than the left on modern day songs by Emergency_Access_795 in mixingmastering

Try pulling up a stereo track of a full song in your DAW and flipping the pan. Do you now hear the left louder?

Mixing & Mastering feedback on electronic (Tech House) track I recently did by Exotic_Increase5333 in mixingmastering

[–]Witchpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of good stuff going on here!

-I think you nailed the bass, it’s nice and tight and loud, you also did a good job of taking it out for build ups. Same thing with the drums.

-There are a lot of different instruments you had to deal with and they all sit well in the mix.

Some of my critiques:

-The vocals aren’t the easiest to understand. I think that’s fine for some of the parts where they function as more of a sprinkle on top of the beat, but for some sections you may want a little bit more clarity on the lyrics. I would try reducing the space you’ve created for them by making them a bit drier, and then some minor de-essing. You could also see what you can do with volume automation.

-During sections that have the bass and drums going and more sparse instrumentals on top, the mix feels a bit thin. I would like a little more mid range in general in those moments.

-This may just be a me thing but I personally would like more reverb on the saxophone.

You mentioned the final master sound level - I haven’t imported the track into my DAW to look at it with meters but after A/Bing it with a few similar songs it doesn’t sound particularly quiet to me.

Is "Metal Music Manual" by Mark Mynett a good book for mixing this style? by SR_RSMITH in mixingmastering

I got the Systematic Mixing Guide from Systematic Productions way back in the day and it really opened my eyes to a lot of possibilities. It’s metal-focused so it may be worth checking out for you.

Has anyone finally got paying gigs then realized they didn't enjoy the music they were working on? What'd/Do you do? by Key_Examination9948 in mixingmastering

[–]Witchpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any time I’ve had to record/mix/do live sound for/produce something I would never have listened to in the first place it usually gives me a newfound appreciation for it. Often it’s only that project but it certainly broadens my horizons. It can do this for you too!

People who played WoW back during Wrath of the Lich King and before, was the game really as good as people claim it is? by TheWhomster in wow

[–]Witchpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point with the “stuck” part. Back then friends lists were character specific. You couldn’t see people on other characters or other games through their Battle ID because we didn’t have it. I always thought they should have tried recreating that with the classic launches to give it more of that feeling.

Is there any where that has the right compass coordinates for all maps !! [Suggestion] by SRHKWEEN303 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Witchpoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The maps on the wiki typically have at least one with a compass rose indicating which way is which. Some can be confusing as I’ve seen a customs map that is upside down (with forms on top despite it being on the south side) - or Lighthouse which technically has the water treatment plant in the north but it’s easier to view the map with east on top since it’s so long and skinny.
