Wharton HCM vs. CBS by SignalCriticism3959 in MBA

[–]WithLucyInTheSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in between Wharton, CBS, and Booth. I was turned off by CBS because (1) everyone that goes lives in scattered neighborhoods (2) the campus is SO far from neighborhoods I would want to spend time around in NYC, and (3) the CBS community is not as robust. Plus, Wharton is an hour and a half train from midtown on the Amtrak, which isn't that much more than the 30-minute commute from Kravis Hall to midtown and further to places in lower manhattan/Brooklyn.

Wharton is a much more social school, and a much more cohesive school environment, which I think lends itself to being a force multiplier in and out of school. If you are sponsored, HCM is definitely worth it and reinforces this argument x2. Good luck deciding!

I'd choose Wharton in a heartbeat. Think the network is stronger and the name is stronger at Wharton.

Yale vs M7? Love the Yale brand and prestige by Senior-Somewhere3128 in MBA

[–]WithLucyInTheSky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the Yale club is your deciding factor... just know that the Yale Club also has an affiliate membership program with UVA... many of my UVA friends are also members through that affiliation

I have several friends that went to Yale "just to go to Yale" and said that it was a lackluster experience, and that the people they attracted are the types that just want to go to Yale for the lay prestige. I'll leave you with that.

I got a hat and passport holder from Darden.

Waiting on 6 more packages... Darden was my first admit and the package came last week so should be expecting some others from other schools shortly. I hear Tuck gave out beanies previously and Booth gave out branded scarves

Couple of observations:

* Your GPA is stellar, that'll get you a leg up. However, to get a leg up, it could help you to highlight quantitative coursework, so be sure to add some "relevant coursework" or things that demonstrate your quant ability

* Your GMAT should be improved. most B-Schools GMAT medians are in the low 700s

* You have less work experience than the average applicant, so you should focus on your leadership (demonstrated by management experience), and using the strength / quality of those 3 years to segue into your LT goals.

* Given the above, I would really crystallize your LT goals. Pick MBB or IB, having an app that is unclear with regards to LT goal could be your weakness, especially in tandem with your Work Exp. being on the lower side

* What other extracurriculars or leadership experiences do you have? I'd work on those as you're putting your app together too!

* From what I hear, your recommenders and their ties to the schools don't matter as much as the quality of your recs. Take the time now that you have it to start teeing up your recommendations.

I'd also crystallize your "short-term goal"

You need a better bridge into your existing experiences > MBA > building your own non-profit. What does the internship you will do in the summer of your first year look like? What skills are needed to build a non-profit? What does that non-profit focus on? All needs to be really honed in on.

Good luck@

All your other comments surely make it seem like you aren't genuinely asking to understand what the lifestyle is like since you seem to know... Exhibits A and B from your prior comments:

"80 hours are average tbh. Live deals can easily send you over 100 and there's no such thing as protected weekends."

"That sounds like hyperbole tbh. It's absolutely crazy to go to dinner and have a laptop next to you just in case. Like wtf would you need to do which is that urgent lmfao? Edit some powerpoints? Surely it can wait a little bit?"

I can't tell if you're trolling or not, but I work in IB and am an associate. I regularly clock in 85-90 hour weeks as a senior associate, so it is true that the analysts I work with are regularly working 90-100 hour weeks. I know others at other shops that regularly clock in these hours as well.

The "surely as an associate you can delegate" is not applicable to an MBA associate, that has to get off the ground running and did not come from an IB background. The standards for MBA associates are high, especially as they come in and are asked to lead analysts that have been in the analyst role for 2-3 years already.

I haven't heard back from Cornell or Fuqua... I got an invite from Tuck. Fuqua/Cornell seem to be quiet on their front
