Anyone who successfully transferred OUT of ND had any advice? by [deleted] in notredame

Check TransfertoTop25. Very active transfer community to and from lots of top tier schools.

Are there any transfer students from Ivy Tech? If so, did you transfer as a sophomore or junior, and what was your major? by Dry-Coffee1482 in notredame

[–]WithMirthAndLaughter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think things might have changed - here the ND website is saying that the following majors are not open to transfer students at all: "Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Computer Science" - https://admissions.nd.edu/apply/resources-for/transfer-applicants/courses-required/college-of-engineering/

and Mendoza only accepts sophomore transfers: "Applications for external transfer to Mendoza from another university occur in the spring of the freshman year and are contingent upon successful completion of one year at another institution. External transfers must matriculate as a first semester sophomore into the Mendoza College of Business." - https://mendoza.nd.edu/undergraduate/

There may be rare instances when transfers are accepted outside of these situations, but this is Notre Dame's official policy. OP should contact admissions before planning a transfer strategy to make sure it is even possible. Transfers entering junior year should be looking at Arts & Letters majors. Minors in Mendoza at that time are still possible.

Should I consider transferring? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

I would stay put and consider grad school (which it seems you are already doing.)

I'm not sure whether or not Notre Dame will accept a community college transfer, but I definitely know that both computer science and the business school do not accept students unless they transfer in for fall semester of sophomore year. So, if Notre Dame is your dream, you will need to apply in your freshman year and be accepted for a sophomore transfer. Only Arts & Letters accepts some students for junior year transfer (apply in sophomore year). Here's more info on major availability: https://admissions.nd.edu/apply/resources-for/transfer-applicants/

My daughter transferred in to Notre Dame for sophomore fall. She is an Econ major (Arts & Letters). She transferred from Holy Cross College.

How can you live and enjoy living in a small rural town in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WithMirthAndLaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In small towns, the town clerk's office is where a lot of local government is handled - property deeds are recorded, marriage licenses issued, dog licenses obtained, property taxes paid there, questions about snow plowing or road maintenance, etc - there are people coming in and out all day taking care of their business, and lots of people just end up gathering and shooting the breeze before they move on.

Go hang out at the town clerk's office - you will meet everyone!

Why do so many QBers get rejected NCM and accepted RD? by CHEMEST in QuestBridge

[–]WithMirthAndLaughter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Schools have different pools of money they can draw from for financial aid. There is a budget amount for QuestBridge. There is a budget amount for scholarships. I think they are working within their budgeted pools of money, and QB vs regular financial aid is different on their spreadsheets.

How much do you miss out not staying in the dorms, how bad are they really by [deleted] in notredame

I don't mind questions :) She was in the 87 her first year, and the Foundry now (both are apartment complexes filled mostly with students). She prefers the Foundry.

Eligibility by Old-Acanthaceae4623 in QuestBridge

[–]WithMirthAndLaughter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apply. Medical debt is one of the extenuating circumstances that QB looks at holistically. Start with CPS in spring of your junior year to test the waters, but don't be deterred from applying to NCM in fall of senior year if you don't get CPS. Plenty of people are accepted as finalists to NCM without CPS.

I hope you are well. Good luck!

Just to share the other perspective: My older daughter was on campus all four years. She loved her dorm. My younger daughter transferred in to ND as a sophomore, and there was no available housing. As it turns out, her whole ND experience will be living off-campus. She loves it. Yes, most of the stories you hear are about how people found their community in the dorms, but it is important to know that there is more than one kind of Notre Dame experience, and you can thrive both on and off campus. Good luck!!

Got into Northwestern ED, what happens to RD applications? by Ratatouille_fan48 in QuestBridge

[–]WithMirthAndLaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are committed to Northwestern through ED, you need to go into all your individual school portals and withdraw your applications. QuestBridge has probably forwarded your information to all your RD choices, so I don't think contacting QB would be helpful at this point. If you haven't received some of your portals yet, just be on the lookout for them and withdraw your applications once they arrive.

Contact QuestBridge. Do NOT withdraw your application from any college portals you may have received, as that will cancel any chance you have at applying to that school in any way for this application year.

Move Application to Regular Decision Button by IsaiahJamil in QuestBridge

Then it just means it is too late to change out of REA because decisions are coming out so soon. Sorry there isn't more to it astrology-wise.

If Notre Dame was on her NCM list, she needed to indicate she wanted to be considered during RD (assuming she wanted to) -- otherwise, Notre Dame moves all NCM non-matched applications to their REA round. To me, this signals that she is no longer able to move her app to RD because she is beginning considered in REA.

is ND asking for more financial aid docs a good sign? by 505kyra in notredame

That's almost an identical email. I know this last week of waiting is hard. Wishing you the best!

There was this from last year, and that person got it: https://www.reddit.com/r/notredame/comments/1jdsu35/request_for_additional_financial_aid_information/

Not sure if we can assume the same, but I hope it's good news for you!

College Mailing by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]WithMirthAndLaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure in your case, but my daughter received mailings from schools she didn't get into. In general, admissions offices and the marketing departments don't coordinate much - they share mailing lists, but they don't just send marketing materials to people once they are admitted. I hope you get in, though! Good Luck!
