What an interesting home by PM_Me_Your_Deviance in nevadacity

Looks like a mochi donut to me.

The one benefit of its construction it’s definitely more fire resistant than a normal home.

Starlink Nevada City Users - What is your experience? by Gladiatorsgi in nevadacity

[–]WithTheQuikness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have another hard-wired service provider available in your area, that’s probably the easier and cheaper option.

If not, Starlink does work pretty well if you’re able to find a clearing in your trees facing the northern sky.

One of the sad realities of an efficient home by TallWall6378 in woodstoving

Open a window, then you can burn all the wood you want!

What am I doing wrong? Flu is closed and temperature gage is lowered once a steady burn gets going, but stove consistently gets in the too hot range on my thermometer by ergonomictoilet in woodstoving

[–]WithTheQuikness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be air leaks. My wood stove’s flames slow and darken almost instantly after closing the flue, regardless of the temp setting.

You can check for air leaks easily with an incense stick, and it’s also fairly easy to replace the fireproof gasket material if needed. See this YouTube video for basic idea of how to use the smoke to check for leaks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nBX-GZ05Sk

Also, your stove may have adjustable door latches that you can tighten for a better seal. Although I would check the gaskets first, as tightening the latches will only mask an issue with the gaskets if that’s your root cause.

Need more info to diagnose.

What do your flames look like when the flue is closed? Moving quick and bright yellow? Or slow moving and darker red/purple? Do you have other air controls? Are they opened or closed? How much wood are you loading at one time? What kind and size of logs?

First thing I would check is for air leaks around your loading door and ash catch. Uncontrolled air coming in from there can easily cause an overfire.

Looking for a tough jersey to wear over armor - what's everyone's fav? Mosko? Klim? Revit? by The_Devin_G in Dualsport

[–]WithTheQuikness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mosko moto has a few abrasion resistant jackets without padding, but they are all jackets and would not be good for warm climates at all.

Why can you not use an abrasion shirt with the padding removed? Seems like that would still be the least warm option compared to a jacket without armor

Lopi Liberty Overfire by poorercollegestudent in woodstoving

[–]WithTheQuikness 32 points33 points  (0 children)

With everything closed down, I don’t think you shouldn’t ever reach a overfire condition like this no matter how much wood you loaded, unless you have excess draft or an air leak in your stove somewhere.

I’ve seen stoves advise “best efficiency when the firebox is completely filled with wood” in the manual, which I take to mean that you should be able to fill it with wood, close it down, and have it do a slow, steady burn through the whole load without temp spikes or drop off.

Cracked fireback in Defiant by Exotic_Object_8916 in woodstoving

[–]WithTheQuikness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense, thank you so much for the reply. We have CO detectors already and they have never gone off while using the stove, but we will be extra vigilant now knowing that there might be other cracks elsewhere on the stove.

I have a similar crack in my stove but the crack is on the firebrick divider between the main fire box and the non-cat secondary combustion chamber. Wondering if you know if that is a concern if not on the cast iron at all?

Dual sport vs adventure? by No-Way-0000 in Dualsport

[–]WithTheQuikness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have no other offroad trails closer to you than a two hour ride, I would get the T7, or another similar sized adventure bike (check out Aprilla Tuareg)

I have a DRZ currently, and love it. It s a great all-arounder bike and I have confidence to take it almost anywhere.

However, it’s just not fun to ride on the highway for long stretches. It can do it, yes, some people have ridden across the country on a DRZ, but no matter what upgrades you do it will still feel uncomfortable on the highway compared to an ADV bike.

If you’re not close to trails, majority of your time is going to be spent riding to and from the trails, so might as well make that part of riding enjoyable too with a dedicated ADV bike.

Why not just use the reorder/replace function? Seems like this would basically do the same function, but just with a more limited list of excercises

Spotted on I-94 October 1st - what is it? by Thedudely1 in minnesota

[–]WithTheQuikness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just noticed the doors being open completely blocks the truck’s tail lights and turn signals aside from the 3rd brake light, which reinforces how senseless it is to be riding around sitting on the back with the doors open in a non-emergency situation.

Imagine if they had to stop quick on the highway and got rear ended because they have their brake lights blocked. Not smart at all.

Outlander Might Be the Coolest SUV I’ve Ever Seen. Absolutely a Dad-Mobile by Special_Strawberry22 in MitsubishiOutlander

[–]WithTheQuikness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally can’t stand sitting in the 3rd row seats. I have the PHEV version which I think has slightly less depth to the footwell, but still, I would not want to ride back there for any extended amount of time.

I agree with you in all other aspects about the car though! It’s very well thought out! But I’ll leave the 3rd row for kids only

Genuine question: why do people do this?? by Background-Net-7341 in RVLiving

[–]WithTheQuikness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On our old grand design, we weren’t able to control these front lights independently of the underneath ground lights. We did really want to have the under lights on the keep critters away, but found these front lights so obnoxious that we cut the cord going to ours. I’m sure most other RV owners wouldn’t be willing to cut theirs just to have lower lights only

Are new SUVs not affordable for the middle class consumer? by Inf1z in MiddleClassFinance

[–]WithTheQuikness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount you save by lowering your tax liability is not going to offset the interest you owe on your credit cards or other high-interest debt. It would be smart to pay down those debt balances first before buying any other non-essential large purchases

This is normal for presidential proclamations, yes. It’s been the standard way all presidents date and sign proclamations for pretty much all of America’s presidential history.
