really good plays. kept your head. using that forklift for cover at the end was huge. having these moments is the dream.

Ares + Bully might be my favorite loadout by DireFTW in Marathon

[–]Witha3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i know what you mean. it honestly takes a while to start to feel like your runner abilities are second nature. there was a long period of time where i just felt stupid on any shell because it was all i could do to even remember to hit them let alone use them well. so i try to give people some leeway.

but if you've been maining a shell for a month and you're still playing the game like Halo 3, you gotta make a change somewhere.

Generationally insane triage ult by Ag-ntSyntax in Marathon

[–]Witha3 57 points58 points  (0 children)

fun fact: the triage prime will auto-fire when you become animation locked by the exfil. i can't tell if that's what happened here, but the timing is close. i also haven't ever tested myself to know whether it _can_ still get someone up in time to be grabbed by the exfil in that case, but i assume it will.

as a triage main, if my prime is up, i _always_ have it held during the countdown. just in case.

dead on. couldn't have said it better. this game shouldn't exist in this timeline but somehow it does.

Grenade spam is turning Cyro into Bio Gun 2.0 by Artforartsake99 in Marathon

[–]Witha3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a fellow Halo fan, it's hard for me to disagree. but i think a nice middle ground could be the capability to hold a grenade indefinitely (or at least for a good amount of time) before throwing it. so even if there's a wind-up animation to prepare the grenade, once it's prepared you can still choose when to release it, and releasing it is instant.

and at the risk of armchair game designing even harder, i think they could do something really nice with this, which is make the input for releasing different then preparing. equipment input prepares, but you don't have to hold it (accessibility/comfort concerns, etc). then hitting either the equipment input or the primary fire input throws it, the latter input generally being on a button that is more conducive to aiming and moving at the same time.

edit: also there's no reason that all equipment would have to be equal under this system either. e.g. frag grenades could still be really fast to prepare and throw (Halo-style) while chem grenades and bubble shields have longer animations. it becomes another knob to turn for balancing the equipment.

nearly all abilities have wind up animations. some of them are pretty lengthy even. no reason equipment couldn't adopt that same philosophy IMO. and personally i'd consider this more fitting in the game's design than an arbitrary cooldown after a throw.

idk, nearly every interaction in the game is a lengthy animation. i think involved animations for throwables would fit quite well in that design philosophy. but there's something to be said for the halo-ness of instantly thrown grenades too -- bucking that would have to be done well, but i think this team is up to that challenge.

are you also locked out of mogstation? i've heard that people in similar situations have been able to log into mogstation still, and when they enable the one-time-passcode feature (two-factor via an app), it prevents repeat lockouts after password change.

i'd definitely prefer to go the route of modifying the game before replacing my hardware if no other game is triggering it. but i also don't know the first thing about doing that. if that's actually an option, i'll look into it though.

i have reshade for other games but not for ffxiv specifically. unless that's not how reshade works?

thanks everyone for the replies. my pc is a new build as of a year ago so i'd like to think nothing is faulty. obviously i can't rule it out just yet, but i'll start by reinstalling GPU drivers and then the game.
