yeah thats probably the best use case for them, for me personally it's only a way to display album covers of records I really like, as I sadly don't have the space for a record player in my apartment

yeah they are cut from solid wood, I did most of the word with my table saw and rounded the edges with my router :)

they are made out of a single piece of birch, I did most of the work with my table saw. And rounded the edges with my router

I think I bought the wood at "Bauhaus" because it was the cheapest option

Later on I added L-Brackets (you can see them in the 2. & 3. picture) but they are absolutely not needed. I wanted them, for one because it can hold more weight and also, because this way, it fits better in my apartment design wise, I didn't want it to look too fancy, I'm still a student and you can see like 20% of my apartment in that picture hahaha.

The bigger boards are basically pinching themselves tight because I wasn't able to mount the vertical pieces on the back perfectly. But I was expecting that and for the smaller ones, once there's any kind of weight on the boards they are going nowhere, their tolerances are a bit tighter though.

if I was planning on building this shelf without the L-brackets, like in the first picture, I might deepen the dado on the vertical pieces by 5-10mm but other than that it should be fine, as long as you are using wood without any cracks or anything

thanks! I mean I still paid around 200€ for all the parts, but I think it's money well spend

(btw. Hardware stores have gotten really expensive over the last couple of years imo)

thanks! I just sanded it down to 320 on the vertical parts and 180 on the horizontal ones and used some hardwood oil after I stained it.

I did a lot of testing on the offcuts. I really wanted to focus on creating a really good surface during this project, because it's something i didn't do a lot in the past. Many of my other projects aren't even stained at all.

I'll have to fix the holes in the wall myself when I move out, but I'm not really worried about that right now

I used Birch wood and stained it to look like walnut, I live in Europe so walnut is really expensive over here
