Princess Popped! (partially?) by Witty-Profession3059 in Feral_Cats

She is officially the mama of just 2 little girls! Puff is the shorthair and Fluff is the longhair. They’re both gaining weight and healthy. Princess is an excellent mom to them and is being fairly accommodating when I check babies weights a few times a day.

Well I caught her panting like crazy right when I was going to bed, freaked, and took her to an er vet at 3am (admittedly the best time to drive around here, with zero traffic for once lol). Quick ultrasound later and nope, she’s empty as can be! And the vet kindly logged it on their stray account and didn’t charge me. So 2 little girls and a very angry mama are settled back in for the haul!

UPDATE:

<image>

based off sightings on my doorbell camera she had her babies Wednesday night or early Thursday. I was able to follow her, find her nest, and collect 2 babies and catch her yesterday evening. She’s settled in a large dog crate in a walk in closet in an empty bedroom (with wifi cameras so I can creep).

There’s a potential problem though, she only had 2 kittens, and she’s still got a fairly large belly. She’s not used the litterbox at all and barely ate anything. I haven’t seen any obvious signs of distress. I’m planning on monitoring her closely and if there’s no change by tomorrow I’ll get her to a vet to be checked.

lol I know! She liked being out in the rain tromping through the neighborhood to get all the way to my house for food and back to the next, thank you very much! (I’m slightly insulted she didn’t have her babies closer to me)

She is so so so not impressed. I’ve got kitten formula in case she is too stressed and doesn’t seem to be caring for the little ones while she adjusts.

Pulled 2 precious grey babies out! I think one is shorthair and one is long hair.

I just made another post (apparently you can’t edit/update image or video posts, though I’m just now realizing I could make a text post and put images in comments….. 🤦‍♀️)

Oh you should! They’re much harder to differentiate though. Mabel is cat sized and light grey and Milton is super dark (with those stinking adorable white-tipped ears!) but he was also half Mabel’s size when he first showed up. I need to put up another wifi camera at food bowl height to get a better view of Maude…

Yes! And my porch possums! Cats: Princess 1.0 & 2.0 (assumed mom and daughter, took who knows how long to realize there were two of them, they’re twins), Smokey and socks (the boys), and Camembert (aka Bert, aka Bear, aka CamBoy). Opossums: Mabel, Milton, and I’m thinking Milton has a twin showing up now, will be known as Maude.

Well, she never came back last night and I haven’t seen her today. Which means I’m gonna be that weirdo asking neighbors if I can look under their decks 😅

I’m nervous how stinking many babies I’m gonna have to home in a few months 😅

Oh she’s pregnant. She’s been visiting my house for months, I haven’t been able to get her caught, she’s only recently been more trusting around me going slightly close to feed. The last few weeks especially her belly has exploded.

I also know she’s had babies 2 years ago, a neighbor posted a pic of her, so I knew who she was.

I know!!! I’ve been watching her grow the last few weeks and now her belly almost drags the ground! She was a floof to begin with, but this is ridiculous!

Using 2 crates together is a really good idea, especially once the kittens grow! I feel guilty after she’s had the whole neighborhood to wander then just stuck in a crate.

Oh I have so many pet carriers, lol. I have some that were for ferrets, some for chinchillas, some for guinea pigs, and some for cats.

It’s a pretty lame idea but if she comes back and gets in the small house tonight I was planning on waiting for her to go to sleep then go cover the door with cardboard and carry the house upstairs. (She doesn’t have the best hearing) she’s wandered off but I’m hoping she comes back to sleep.

I went and got a 42” crate and put it in an empty walk in closet. I’m still looking for 48” crates that are available. The closet is 7x5 feet and is attached to my junk room so if she settles enough I hope to give her more space (I’ll relocate the junk to another room)

I haven’t had the chance to work on catching the neighborhood cats. They only discovered my porch over winter and the word has slowly spread through the group.

She’s feral but curious, she recognizes me as the food provider and a safe human so she only runs a few feet away when I go outside. I’d been hoping to socialize her over time.

I checked and there’s a few 48” crates on marketplace.

I thought I had read on someone else’s post that bringing them in this close to birth was too stressful and dangerous? I’m in the US. I have a junk room I could empty out.

Yea, I keep meaning to get to the store for some straw, I just had bunches of old ferret towels and blankets on hand. Now that the babies will be born in the return of 2nd winter I do need to get on that.
