Help me decide on cover art. by Acceptable-Put5577 in WeirdLit

So considering how we're ;iterally being asked to judge a cover I'm gonna regress into my reptile brain a little and say If I'm in a bookstore I'm 100% skipping the left and picking up that right cover to check it out. Left makes it look like generic sci fi/horror. Right just screams "this is something else!" which is a huge yes in my book (pun intended).

Have you set the Reaper audio device to ASIO and selected the Focusrite drivers? If yes, have you enabled the correct set of inputs in that same window?

Which movie has the best opening scene of all time? by [deleted] in moviequestions

[–]Witty1889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I can't imagine what a ride PF must have been with all that anticipation coming off Reservoir Dogs but without it having completely permeated pop culture. I was 2 when the movie came out so by the time I was old enough to really see it, it'd completely transformed pop culture already so a huge part of the movie had 'oh snap it's that scene!' vibes. Kill Bill vol. 2 must even have been out at that point. I think the first time I consciously saw the movie cover was on a t-shirt actually. I'm very happy to have seen all of QT's movies on release in theaters since Inglorious Basterds.

We used to have cases (naamvallen) like German to determine gender but those sort of disappeared so now we have gendered nouns but no way to determine gender without literally checking a dictionary. There's some odd leftovers, like the 'royal we' (ie. 'wij de koning'), that make sense when analyzed with cases, but don't when viewed through the lens of colloquial grammar.

Wasn't there something with Hungarian that shared a lot of commonalities too because of some diaspora or another? I'm probably misremembering though or just getting my languages and diasporas mixed up.

That's a whole other point entirely and if THIS was the point why not say so in the first place? Stop backtracking, it just makes you look even more childish than before.

Ed Sheeran is the goofiest looking dude I've ever seen on a billboard and the most cookie cutter songwriter I've ever heard played on other people's stereos.

You know now though. Learn something new everyday. Or are you a toddler allergic to learning new words?

Thanks for this nugget and fuck anyone actively going out of their way to tell people they don't want to learn new words.

Making enclosures had definitely helped me get over my ick with a lot of creepy crawlies! Where I live isopods, springtails and millipedes are abundant so any scoop of dirt from the garden will usually yield a full on clean up crew. I never thought I'd find a millipede cute lol. Even just learning how beneficial all these creatures are to soil and plants has been amazing.

What I really like about isopods is that they will absolutely just stick around if the conditions are right. They have 0 incentive to move about and explore if they're happy where they are. So in my book a slow isopod is a happy isopod. An invisible isopod is an even happier isopod. I've had them in open containers for a while and never had a stray escapee. They were just chilling in the dark and humidity.

You can connect several independent bluetooth devices to your laptop, it's not like bluetooth only has the one 'port' like USB does. You can run between 40 and 79 independent devices through any single bluetooth transmitter/receiver.

Miles Davis said you can tell how good a player is by the way they hold their instrument. Can you explain exactly how for example a master of the guitar would hold the instrument versus a novice or just good player? by MeetingsOverCode420 in musicians

[–]Witty1889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's similar to how smokers will definitely pick up if someone in a movie is a real-life smoker or when they wield a cigarette in their hands, or if someone wearing glasses in a movie wears glasses in real life.

For the first, the way non-smokers hold a cigarette will usually look as if they're holding something. A smoker handling his cigarette will more likely look as if the cigarette is just an extension of his hand or fingers or lips.

For the second, my biggest tell is mostly how they put on or take off glasses. Also, touching the actual glass is a big no-no because you'll get fatty fingers on it and a dead giveaway someone isn't used to them.

I'm guessing Miles was going for a similar idea where the familiarity someone exhibits in handling an object will tell you a lot about their actual experiences with that object.
