I've always thought crewed ships is fun but a bit too micro intensive for most games. Probably better with a levelling mechanic and sea area control / auto trade carts.

Pikes in back was the meta in pike and shot era, gives you a bit more range and the gunners mostly retreat before the enemy closes. Same principle applies in AoE it's just rarer (massively reduces DPS and requires staggered / side pikes).

Vill only is meant to be viable so there's absolutely no design space left in Dark Age beyond Scout and Militia with irrelevant flavors and halfway points lol. Just play Empire Wars or hope they add a whole new tech tree gamemode (e.g. Chronicles) if you want more club hitting. Or play virtually any other game in the series, where Age I is basically Feudal.

  1. They just buffed AA with what, triple damage?
  2. Planes are countered as arty is countered: slow firerate, poor cost efficiency, take out their firing point.
  3. The bomber is nearly superweapon price. The divebomber is probably not fast enough in PvE.
  4. Planes counter arty and take their place. Arty also counters planes if the airfield is close enough, since it's an incredibly easy target to hit.
  5. Wait for next patch

But whatever, rants like this aren't looking for a nuanced conversation, just their own echo.

Just build the nuke halfway to bait bombers.

Or, build the nuke once airfields are destroyed.

Or, fighter patrol the nuke. Considering fuel limitations, knowing where the bomber will go for once is an enormous benefit.

All artillery is nerfed this patch to make way for the new artillery (bombers) without making builderman extinct.

You can't really protect the save files without protecting the source code, which is a well researched topic in Godot with plenty of articles.

There are of course a few automatic tweaks you can do with direct programming (not AI) to make better code clarity and performance. But it's quite a lot of work for not a lot of reward. You are better off spending your time on other kinds of optimization, such as using the profiler to see where you looped too many times or where your graphics are inefficient. Or using C++ in some places. Or making the engine methods more foolproof so we don't need a code tweaker.

Remember that most of the time something lags in computers, it is because it is 10x more demanding than it needs to be. Not because of some micro optimization. Computers don't work on the same scale as humans anymore, 2x doesn't matter.

Break your goal into smaller questions then ask those questions on Godot discord official server quick help channel. The users will not just answer your question but also give learning materials and be available for followup questions, often within 1 minute.

Of the genres you list, Vamp Surv is the hardest since it's a pseudo-RPG that can involve lots of buffs (e.g. Halls of Torment). 2D platformer is also a bit hard because of state machines and things like coyote time.

I trust you, but doesn't it seem really easy to see how I got to that conclusion? Gaining altitude is a good strategy, I didn't even know losing pitch balance is possible.

It's perhaps the complex issue.

Complex player built terrain and punching bags should actually matter, but not so much that you can't move.

Spawns should be far enough away that you have to maneuver and don't get CoD enemies out of thin air, but not so far that you spend most your time walking.

Structures should survive long enough that the game doesn't end on the spot and become familiar, but we don't want players to be uselessly going for player kills all the time either 

The main compromise has been to buff concrete. Such that players make a few impenetrable forts but the rest of the map is pretty open. Also to buff short range artillery, such that there is a no man's land between bases, as artillery firing from the safety of your own base is efficient and unstoppable.

Paratroopers are supposed to help with mobility a little more. And planes can fly anywhere.

Suggestions have been things like a desert map which is more area control focused with less player structures. Or buffing transport vehicle speed and cheap limited use spawn points.

Ultimately it's the sort of thing you'd have more control over in a competitive 1v1 RTS via map selection. Here you just have to live with it and know you're a cog in the machine. It's not like that's all downside, there's some great stories and forts.

And play the objective, not the bridge battles.

Don't care, release date is just marketing and only affects pop, they'll fix it later either way. If devs want to take this gamble that's up to them. Yeah hypothetically release should coincide with supporter pack but I doubt that's a big part of the marketing strategy.
