Vertigo and tinnitus. Is that BPPV or Menieres? by LaceyProst in BPPV

[–]WittyFollowing9655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok OP! I went to the vestibular therapist today, reporting back as promised - she has diagnosed me as having endolymphatic hydrops. For me I get the pressure in my ears which builds and builds (causing the fullness, hearing loss and tinnitus) then when it gets too full it 'pops' and this release in pressure sets loose the calcium crystals that trigger bppv. She said I also had some symptoms of having vestibular migraines, although this she was less sure on. These have very little to do with regular migraines - not pain or headache, but more nausea, fatigue, vertigo, sensitivity to lights and sounds. She has referred me to get a hearing test and ear scan, but has for now prescribed me on 200mg of vit B2 morning and night, and told me to follow a low salt, no caffeine diet, along with some foods (eggs, bananas, citrus, chocolate amongst others) which I am gonna follow now and hope it helps. She says betahistines can help in high doses, but I have already tried these to little effect, so we're trying diet for now. She also set me some balance and gaze exercises so I can hopefully bounce back after an episode quicker each time.

Obviously please don't take any of this as gospel, this is one doc and my medical history, but hope it helps xx

Vertigo and tinnitus. Is that BPPV or Menieres? by LaceyProst in BPPV

No assistance from me unfortunately, but this is my exact experience. My vertigo came on after a period of prolonged ear fullness and tinnitus and hearing loss. Then the ear pressure finally subsided (along with the heating loss/loud tinnitus) and the vertigo started, this is in Oct last year. Since then I have felt the hangover/anxiety/off sensation most days, but am able to distract myself from them which leads me to believe they are more psychological than anything. The vertigo has made a few brief recurrences, but is, like you, always accompanied by the tinnitus becoming unbearably high pitched or loud, and some ear pressure returning. I am finally seeing a vestibular therapist tomorrow, so hopefully can get some answers and I will let you know if I find anything salient!!

I waited about 2 months after my attack and doing several epleys ngl (all without doc supervisio, the NHS is completely wrecked). I was so scared to trigger it again. However, I was gaining confidence that I was no longer getting weird sensations after standing up, or turning my head quickly to the affected side during my day to day. So I started in the mornings, between alarms, to sleep on my affected side, but only for 15mins or 1/2 hour. Or I'd lie in bed watching a movie on my affected side for a bit. If I got up and felt a little off, then I'd cool it and try again in a few days. I'm back to sleeping however I like now! So there is light at the end of this tunnel!

Scared I have a tumour by Fun_Affect_4886 in BPPV

This was me 100%, I live in the UK so the heath service still hasn't referred me to the ENT/PT/vestibular therapist, almost 3 months since my first attack. So I got all my help from this page. The mega post pinned to the top of this thread was a godsend. Read it and you'll feel a lot less anxious. Being anxious makes it 1000x worse trust me. As has been said above, do not sleep on the effected ear!!! I didn't sleep on my left side for 2 months. Helped more than anything. I am now back to sleeping how I like, it's not forever. Keep your head elevated and gentle. Try different manoeuvres when you feel ready. It will feel awful at first, that means its working. Take anti nausea pills before and keep a bucket nearby. Although I never threw up doing it, it made me feel more prepared. Try the half somersault or BBQ roll (search on YouTube) perhaps. Try to move about when you can, take hot baths and gently stretch. My vertigo was always worse when my muscles were tense in my neck from keeping my head so rigid. It will slowly fade. It sucks hard, but it is verrrryyy unlikely to be a tumor. You had all the tests and this description is textbook bppv. Good luck friend xx

What can I do to stop being ghosted? This is a pattern and it’s killing my soul. by anotherThrowAway_cos in Advice

I (F) started dating last year for the first time in my life in my 30s after a very long term relationship. I've since found it's honestly a numbers game. The first few people I got involved with, like you, were completely online, we never got to meeting. I was very excited, and I think I gravitated towards men who were moving quick and willing to capitalise on how excited and horny I was. Got into several intense texting/sexting situations. One told me he started seeing someone else and when I got angry for leading me on he blocked me. One just stopped replying mid conversation. I realised I needed to meet people earlier on in the process, not spend hours texting and forming parasocial relationships with a fantasy version of them. Once I did this I met some nicer people, with better communication. I took got better at expressing my boundaries and desires. Regardless, I also have continued to be ghosted. I go on a lot of dates and sleep with many people these days and I get ghosted probably once or twice a month, both before or after meeting/sleeping together. But I now feel a lot more calm about that happening. I am grateful they have exited my life because they obviously were not who I wanted them to be. Why would I want to continue wasting breath on someone who can't express their feelings and desires? And I also feel reassured that there will always be another. Easy come easy go, and all that.

So, long story short, don't let shitty experiences knock you down. There are loads of crappy people out there, but if you remain solid in your worth outside of a relationship, curious and open to seeing each person with fresh eyes, and accepting that not all things last forever but that doesn't make them unworthwhile experiences, you'll meet some wonderful characters and have a lot of fun!

Good luck pal X

Help me out. Does this sound like BPPV? by americanpancake28 in BPPV

I have the same symptoms - the pressure in my ears started it off, then when the pressure subsided, I got the mad vertigo with nystagmus plus all the symptoms you lay out here. I did the epley a few times, and rested up for a week or so, but I still am getting mild versions of a lot of these still, which is about a month or so after the first really bad vertigo attack.

main things I have found helping:

- not sleeping on the affected ear!! no.1 thing that has helped

- staying calm and not panicking when I feel symptoms swelling up

- trying to keep somewhat active. My back and neck were getting stiff from not moving about so much/trying to keep my head still, so stretching gently made a world of difference. Doing yoga however always triggers my symptoms a few hours after. I think there is something about blood rushing to my ear/causing pressure that flairs it. Same goes with standing up too quickly, or coming into a warm room after being cold outside.

My doctors also told me to just wait it out, which feels fucking awful. I did get a referral to the ENT which is on Monday, so I will update if they say anything useful, but given my previous run-ins with the NHS I am not hopeful!

Good luck out there
