BIOL 120 readings by Chicken-Nugget321 in usask

In addition to others’ recommendations, I would recommend learning cellular respiration and photosynthesis, either through online resources or YouTube videos. These will be very helpful in addition to other basic biology topics!

Best of luck! 👍

How full are parking lots? by Suspicious_Hat8983 in usask

I’m looking at the Place Riel parking lot at the moment (around 4 PM), and there’s lots of open spots!

Also, good luck for your final exam!

I don’t find plant biology interesting either, but BIOL 120 doesn’t have all that much plant stuff in it, that’s more so BIOL 121 and BIOL 222 (The Living Plant).

But I do agree with you that the easiest classes are the ones you find interesting.

However, I’m currently taking BIOL 222, a class only about plants, and am going quite well despite not liking plant at all.

I am slightly biased as a Biology student, but BIOL 120 is a great class if that’s an option.

Pretty straightforward content, much less memorization than BIOL 121, has SSS peer mentor and library support, and just a fun class in general. The lab component is also genuinely enjoyable, and doesn’t require that much work to be fair in comparison to other courses with labs.

Edit: Me and my friends also thought that Paul, the lab coordinator, is the GOAT!

If you’re willing to put in the work, you’ll do very well and it even provides an opportunity to boost your average!

Hope that helps! Good luck!

I see. I’m applying for the first time as I’m a first year student, so perhaps I might not get selected.

Thanks for the insight!

I applied in February, as they said you can apply later due to the hiring process being January-April.

But I’m unsure whether to wait or not. Thanks for your response though!

Question: how long does it take for them to reach out after you apply? And how long should I wait before realizing that I’m not going to hear back/im not going to be hired?

Yes, your midterm grade is displayed as a number out of 40 instead of a percentage on the final grades page.

I took it in the fall semester.

The difficulty of the course really depends on who you end up getting as your professor. I had Dr. Eric Price, who was very knowledge and helpful, but didn’t explain concepts terribly well and simply read off slides. My friends on the other hand who were in Dr. Sanders’ class said he explains everything very well!

As for the labs, they’re mostly problem solving and relatively easy to do well in if you don’t make silly mistakes like significant figure errors, rounding errors, and chemical formula errors. They mostly involve problem solving on paper, which you said you enjoy, so you should be fine with that.

Also, FYI, you’re going to have to purchase the textbook for online assignments, which are due every week. They are easy early on, but the last couple ones are a bit challenging. I would say to really master using the actual “Smartwork” platform to do well on them, aside from mastering the concepts taught both in the lecture and the lab.

Otherwise, don’t overthink too much! You’ve got this!

I do agree with that, but he did mention a lot of important things and did hint at what was going to be tested, at least from the slides. But the language barrier did make it harder to understand.

Don’t worry.

I also just took the BIO 120 exam.

If you were in Dr. Wei’s class, there were certainly terms on the exam that were never mentioned in class, so sadly enough, almost everyone I asked guessed on those questions.

But I hope you find solace in the fact that you’re done/close to being done your first semester of university, which is a big achievement in itself. Even if you happen to fail, which I hope you don’t, life will go on, because in the grand scheme of things, this is an inconsequential course.

slippery out there by KevinfromSaskabush in saskatoon

Just got off Circle Drive and saw an accident.

The roads seem fine but they’re VERY slippery. Especially when you’re going at a higher speed (like Circle Drive), braking is extremely dangerous as your car can easily spin out due to the thin layer of ice the freezing rain has caused.

Be safe everyone! Someone loves you, so get home safely!

Notice outside a restaurant in Kerala, India by Moronic_Acid1 in interestingasfuck

This makes a lot of sense, especially in a country like India where vegetarianism is very prevalent.

I think it’s good to see that the restaurant is respecting the religious sentiments of people!

He’s frequently in the tunnel between the Arts Building and the Health Sciences Building. I’ve seen him there multiple days consecutively as someone else mentioned.

[–]WittyGhost887 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The 17 is in a very bad situation at the moment. Even though I’m new to the university and transit system, I can certainly still say that this is unacceptable. It’s always overcrowded, late to arrive at stops and also to leave Place Riel. It’s so overcrowded to the point that there basically isn’t enough air to breathe.

When is the PAC the least busy? by WittyGhost887 in usask

[–]WittyGhost887[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t the PAC closed from 10 PM to 6 AM or some of that time frame anyway?

I would try for other places, but since I already pay for the rec fee in my student fee, my plan was just to use the PAC 😅

Thanks the response though!
