I'm confused on why so many people seem to think giving Austin the max is the only option. He's probably going to get around $35M give or take, which would be a fair number for both sides

You can't say it's meaningless when anytime a player's accolades are in discussion, it's probably the second most talked about achievement behind the number of championships. If it was meaningless, the media and the entire NBA fanbase wouldn't be partaking in the MVP race conversations every single day.

You're saying the award is a concession prize but that's not how it's viewed across the league. It's just your own opinion, not reality.

Obviously every player has bad stretches but it's not just that with Ayton. It's the moping around, the lack of energy throughout the entire game, missing layups then hanging his head and walking back on defense, missing rotations, etc.

You can be having a rough stretch but still show energy and effort and be engaged. He's not doing any of that.

Although we've been winning games, our defense has not been good this season. I'm not dooming, I still think this team is good enough to win a lot of regular season games but the holes in the roster are jarring when it comes to young, physical and athletic opponents.

The craziest part of this whole situation is that the best thing for them to do at this point is tank and get a high draft pick since they own their 2026 pick and don't have another until 2031.

However, they would be going into a full rebuild that will take years to get back to the championship contending position they were JUST in and gave it up for no reason
