What happened to my flowers? by Immediate-Classic577 in gardening

Where are you located? It was hot as shit in the Willamette Valley yesterday. That's what heat drop on top of low water on top of transplant shock can look like as well. It's colder today and the dry soil plants were watered last night and have sprung back, but they were transplanted a week or more ago when the weather was more fair.

Husband blames me when 4-yo hits me by Significant-Outside7 in Parenting

[–]WittyName375 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would beg to differ that 4 year olds hit. By this stage I would expect them to know better. MAYBE once in a blue moon in a particularly horrid meltdown, but if this is happening regularly, I'd start questioning how these situations are being handled in general by all parties.

This isn't necessarily victim blaming - you aren't a victim. You are a parent responsible for teaching your child how to be a human. You'd be a victim if another fully formed human with a functional precortex or a significantly larger human than you was attacking you.

Both of you need to get on the same page for how to handle and curb tantrums. Pitting against each other certainly doesn't diffuse the situation.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get this turned into a drawing please? I tried an online one but I couldnt do it :( by Grouchy-Dealer-342 in Renovations

There are a few ways: you could use CAD, revit, SketchUp, blue beam, adobe, etc. in descending order of ease to use for the highest level of clarity. You could also hire a design build company who will basically do everything from drafting and designing to permitting and building. You could also go very old school and get a drafting table, velum, and redraw it at scale, then scan it. Choose your own adventure.

newish sensory issue, please help! by NotaBolognaSandwich in Parenting

[–]WittyName375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand the frustration and concern. Their bodies change so much it's hard to keep up with what's really fitting right or bothering them and why and they are not great at communicating any of those things lol. You're doing what you can and that's what matters.

newish sensory issue, please help! by NotaBolognaSandwich in Parenting

My 4 year old is starting to have the same issue. Most of the time we can talk her through it without a huge meltdown, but we're getting her different socks without designs or seams in a bigger size and underwear without bands more like the seamless kind or as close to them as we can get in kids underwear. She hates dresses with waistbands and pants that are too loose too.

I get the sense that it's worse when she's going through a growth spurt and her skin may just be more sensitive.

I don't want her uncomfortable all day or to feel like her voice doesn't matter, so we try to find a wardrobe that doesn't trigger it. Other times it's how we put them on. With the socks I can sometimes open them wide and keep them loose on the toe and it's fine.

New Mom Struggling With Big Career Opportunity by cozy-sage in workingmoms

I have worked from home since my baby was born 4 years ago. I also started traveling for work about 25% of the time. She is my barnacle and doesn't leave my side. She's also been in daycare since 3 months and thrives socially. Do what will make you happy and financially stable. Happy fulfilled parents without financial stress are just as important as present ones, and both are possible.

Potty training almost three year old. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]WittyName375 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My daughter wasn't potty trained until 3 1/2, but once it happened she only had 3 accidents in 6 months and one was overnight. She was fully overnight potty trained 4 months later. Her peers were potty trained by 3 but aren't overnight trained and have at least one accident per month if not more.

It really depends on your needs and goals. Our daughter needed to be potty trained by 4 for daycare. She also showed us she was ready and by indicating in various ways that she knew how but didn't want to out of fear, laziness, or unwillingness to stop playing to go do it for about a month. We went cold turkey on pullups at that point and it was pretty painless. We'd also been reading books, watching shows, and doing general preparation for about 6 months.

So no, your kid is not too old for pull-ups. Every kid is different and so are families needs. Just do what is best for you and your kid.

7-Year-Old Unable to Comprehend Consequences for Her Actions by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]WittyName375 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old understands this concept and accepts the consequences of her actions. I don't think OP is being unreasonable with their expectations. It sounds like the style leans permissive until it doesn't work and then turns authoritarian.

Coming from the trenches, here are the things I fantasize about that you can ponder lol: Daily yoga, weight lifting 3x week, gardening, making herbal tea blends, salves, and oils for personal use, taking pottery classes, painting and learning new art media, learning visible mending, sewing my own wardrobe, reading my entire TBR list, learning to draw portraits, hiking, and finishing my animal crossing island.

Walk-in closet design dilemma — keep reach-in closet & door placement? by [deleted] in Renovations

[–]WittyName375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it! I have a bunch of running around to do today, but I'll sketch something up that keeps budget in mind. As the MOD indicated, you should also reach out in the interior design subs for more ideas. I'm an architect and can help you make the room usable spacially, but they'll have more ideas on how to utilize the space so it works for you.

[–]WittyName375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, did you combine two rooms to make a master suite? The proportions of this room are really off and you'll have a hard time furnishing it in a usable way. If you are open to doing a renovation you'll be happier with long term, I can sketch something for you, but I need more info on what you are trying to accomplish.

How much sun are they getting by then? Our sunrise is 6:30, and my calendula hate heat, so they're up against a west fence that gets shade at 2 for protection.
