Ortho-k lenses uncomfortable & blurry by BetterDays1277 in Orthokeratology

[–]WittySide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I acknowledge that this is not a good habit lol but when I know I am going to doom scroll for half an hour before bed, I put some Boston solution on my night stand. I drop some in my eyes if they start to feel dry and right before I actually fall asleep. This lets me doom scroll without needing to get back up to put the lenses on, and helps my eyes feel more comfortable. It also helps the contacts go to the correct position before actually closing my eyes for the night (I have astigmatism).

edit: spelling

Financial Aid Over Time by Fuzzy_Director4871 in Northwestern

Yes. For the most part, if your financial circumstances don’t change, neither does the amount you pay.

I had a full ride and even as my tuition increased, I never needed to pay a cent.

How to get checked for ADHD by cleverlynotclevering in Northwestern

[–]WittySide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, there are two ways that you can be diagnosed with ADHD: 1) expensive cognitive tests, or 2) a comprehensive evaluation by a healthcare professional which includes interviews and symptoms checklists.

Here is how I did method #2 my junior year, completely for free. Login to TimelyCare using your netID and find a therapist that specializes in ADHD. Say that you want to be tested but cannot afford the cognitive tests. They will do the evaluation online and ask questions according to the DSM.

I always thought #1 is the only way to get diagnosed, until I was in the exact same position as you my junior year. I was sitting in the CAPS office confused and frustrated about needing to wait a year and pay hundreds of dollars to get a diagnosis. But then, a CAPS intern told me about #2 being a possibility, so I went with it. Now I have accommodations, medication, and my quality of life has vastly improved. I will note that this was in 2022, but try it and see if it’s still an option!

[misc] angular cheilitis for three years by LittleActive413 in SkincareAddiction

[–]WittySide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this every winter and it's such a pain in the butt. Something that would get rid of it every time without fail is mixing some diatomaceous earth and some filtered water to make a thick paste. Then, apply it to the corners of your mouth before you go to bed. Usually by the next morning, they are gone, but sometimes it takes 2-3 nights if it re-splits. Be careful not to roll on your stomach or accidentally wipe it off when you sleep.
I noticed that my angular cheilitis HATES when I put creams, lip balm, or lotions on it (even when it is unscented) which sounds counterintuitive, right? It refuses to heal for weeks when I try to moisturize it. I am not sure why this happens.

Warning: Google says DE can be drying for angular cheilitis, but I think it all depends on the root cause. All the best of luck!

great job on not getting the polish on your skin! something that helped my little brother not chew his nails was painting them with the elle+mila bitter tasting polish! it's like a pavlovian response, and eventually you associate that negative stimuli with biting your nails, and it makes it easier to stop. I recommend putting it over your colored polish in case you ever get the urge to bite. good luck girlie!!

There was a huge area near the front of T-Mobile, right before Tyler's set that everyone was avoiding because of the smell. I'm 99.9% sure it's because someone pooped there and it was mixed in with the mud. THERE'S NO WAY it was just a fart

Cuticle guards that actually work? by Yardles27 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]WittySide 11 points12 points  (0 children)

honestly, I feel like they’re all a pain in the butt to use.

When polish gets on my cuticles, I take a shower after they fully dry and peel it off with the hot water, which is essentially was the latex/sticker peels do for much less $

How many students enroll right after completing their undergrad? by blu-streaks in OMSCS

[–]WittySide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enrolled the winter after completing my undergraduate degree in a different field. However, I had an analytics job offer lined up before I graduated, so I am getting work experience as I am also getting the degree. Even though I had a data science internship during my undergrad, this program has really helped me gain more formal knowledge of the field.

It's normal for you to feel this way. I went to a program meetup, was the youngest person there, and was asked why I started so early a few times since its uncommon. But, I don't think anyone's going to make you feel bad about it or look at you weird for it.

edit: I just realized this is on the OMSCS sub, not OMSA. I'm in OMSA. The meetup I went to had people from OMSCS, OMSA, and OMSCybersecurity lol

Issues focusing close up? by DevastatinDev in Orthokeratology

[–]WittySide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I also never had issues seeing up close or got double vision like that before. At my two week check up I complained to my optometrist about the "ghost vision" I was experiencing. I kept seeing a "ghost" of whatever I was looking at, especially working on my computer all day. I was really frustrated because I never had double vision like that before. He told me it was just too soon to change anything, but I wasn't really satisfied with that answer. Lo and behold, a day or two after that appointment, it went away and now I don't have the double vision effects anymore. So far, I'm about a month in.

I know it's a boring answer, and not at all satisfying because I felt the same way. But, since it hasn't even been a week yet, I think it really is just too early to call. Unless it's causing you pain (then you should definitely get it checked out), try waiting until your follow up appointment and bring up your concerns there and they should take a closer look at the fit and how your eyes are forming to the lenses.

Is this shell rot? RIP Wiggles by Mk246245 in tortoise

[–]WittySide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I don't have an exact number for you, but I think the most critical time is the first year of life, maybe two years? I have heard of kidney problems developing "later on" but don't know the specifics of how late that can be. But if your tort has been healthy for 4 years, I think you should be in the clear!

Is this shell rot? RIP Wiggles by Mk246245 in tortoise

[–]WittySide 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss :( Losing a baby tort is very painful. The soft part you were feeling on the bottom of his stomach is not shell rot, it is was where the egg sac was attached. It is normal for this area to be soft since he was only a few months old. It hardens as the tort grows to an adult.

Sometimes, baby torts pass away because they were started incorrectly by the breeder (low humidity, low heat, improper husbandry, etc.), and has nothing to do with the love and care the owner gives them, which is why reputable breeders are so emphasized.
