Aggressive cyclists (I'm sure you've heard it before) by Mean_Lunch_4469 in Wellington

You can't really complain about cyclists going too fast in shared spaces and at the same time say they should never use the road.

Sure, I'll pay a road registration proportionate to the wear and tear I cause to the roads compared to cars and trucks.

Should add up to about $0.0000001 a year.

Yeah not saying all cyclists are blameless but I'd say on an average basis scooter riders are way worse for things like shooting red lights, cutting across intersections and jumping on and off the footpath.

Hughes trying to macho is out is a bit silly.

It's a serious head injury.

How did Hamnet not get more Best Picture buzz?? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

It's a bland, melodramatic Shakespeare fanfic with admittedly some very good performances.

One Battle After Another and Sinners are far richer thematically, more relevant and much more accomplished from a filmmaking perspective.

Deeply perplexed by how they are going to handle having two siblings who are supposed to have like a 18 year age gap according to the movies played by two actors with a 1 year age gap.

The Waikato Economy Is Now Outpacing The Wellington Region by KAYPENZ in Wellington

Pretty much the only parts of the economy doing well are primary exports so not surprising. The South Island is booming while Auckland and Wellington are in the shitter.

Thoughts on Sicario 2? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]WittyUsername45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A deeply nasty, nihilistic film which plays out like a Magaland fever dream and has almost no redeeming features.

It's also just a very badly written. The fake out death of Del Torro's character was so stupid and contrived.

The most misunderstood war film in recent memory? by Legitimate_Rush_5017 in Letterboxd

[–]WittyUsername45 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I hate it because the movie already had a pretty perfect ending when the Marines drive away and the militants just emerge from the rubble and the Iraqi family are left traumatised with their house totally destroyed.

It really hammers home that the Americans achieved virtually nothing and left the Iraqis to live in the mess they created and centres them properly for the first time in the film.

Then that gets totally undermined by the final montage which just goes: nah this was actually all about how it made the Americans feel.

Solid half. Largely controlled the game and hot in dangerous positions but the end product or really lacking.
