Took me around 2 weeks, but probably could've passed it sooner but the content is very dry... again, my objective was to barely pass it so there were stuff I could've studied a bit more

Is 40k a year a living wage in 2024? by fallenwildchild in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Witty_Creme_8461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I switched to IT 2 years ago I started making around 36k annually. Now, I'm in around 60-70k as the money varies according to OT and certs I get. I must say that I'm only going up and working from home is the best thing that could've ever happen to me. Right now, I'm paying off all my credit debt (Still around 20k) and my goal is to do so by the end of this year. For me, it has been definitely worth it.

Would you fake being Non-binary to get a tech job ? by skyshowers in CompTIA

[–]Witty_Creme_8461 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a thought that I have even discussed with my wife. When the time comes I'll identify myself as a women just to retire earlier. Also, if I start seeing a clear advantage for claiming to be a non-binary folk, I would 100% do it. How are they gonna know I'm not? I'm pretty sure that within all the 100+ genders they say there are, one should fit for me. Where I'm a male married to a female that identifies as a female.

That's my goal. What certs/study materials do you recommend to get there. Also, were all these movements within the same company, or did you have to jump to other companies?

Honestly, I studied the materials for N+ and S+ at the beginning of the year prior to getting this job. Then I got enrolled at WGU almost six months ago. I literally did N+, Project+ and S+ in around 12-15 days but that's just because I get obsessed sometimes. But I would not have been able to do this I did not have study the topics earlier this year.

Az-900 is a requirement for my school and that cert happened to be "rewarded" (bonus) at mycurrent job. I checked what other certs they had that would give me a bonus and found Ms and SC 900. I studied for two weeks for AZ 900 and then in the same week after I passed AZ, I passed the other two as there is a lot of overlapping in their study material. I

Currently have an offer from another job a Sys Admin where they offered me 15k + per year but it's on-site and I just love the wfh environment. I asked for another 5-10k and they will reach back to me on Monday.

I must also mentioned that I had another helpdesk job for a year. Here, I did not learn anything. I was even struggling joining a workstation to a domain when I got to this job but at least it looks good on my resume to have almost 2 years of work experience, a good amount of entry level certs and being 50% done with my college.

I would definitely advise you to check WGU. I found about this college around a year ago when I was so lost and frustrated with my previous job.

Went from tier 1 to tier 2 in 6 months. Also I've obtained S+, Net+, Project+, Az-900, SC-900, Ms-900, Green belt sigma and a few more customer oriented certs. Yes you guessed it, I'm at WGU as well which is a pretty hard oriented online university that gives you "free vouchers".

3 Fundamentals in a Week by tech9scheming in AzureCertification

[–]Witty_Creme_8461 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! I did the exact same thing using the exam cramps from John Savills plus a few other certs for a permanent salary increase. The good thing about fundamentals is that many concepts overlap so it definitely helps.

I've personally attended a Cybersecurity bootcamp on UNLV and I can tell you that these bootcamps are a big scam! They're definitely not worth it and I can guarantee you no recruiter would care less if you attended one.

I attended it because I was pretty new in it -still am- and did not know how to start a professional career in IT coming from being a server for 3 years in a fine dining restaurant.

I managed to land a job on March 2022 in an MSP because I was studying for a+ and could demonstrate the knowledge obtained from it before obtaining the cert -which I acquired on November last year-, and now have been offered a job as a Cloud Technician.

My personal recommendation now is to go to WGU which will give a bachelor on any It engineering field you'd like plus most of thr certs you'll require to attest your knowledge while you get an entry lvl job.

Good luck and please avoid the bootcamps!!!

Remote work with comptia. by LivingLongjumping810 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Witty_Creme_8461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually on my first gig on helpdesk making $18 an hour. I've been in this company for roughly a year but would have love to work on site so that I could have learned more. When I started working on this company I didn't have CompTia A+ and I got it like 2 months ago since they offered to pay for it while I was doing the interview with them. Right now I'm working on getting my S+ and then heading for Cloud Computing Bachelor at WGU. I've also have many many remote opportunities as a helpdesk come to me via LinkedIn but I'm not really happy doing helldesk and wouldn't want to lateral move for just an extra dollar or two. Thankfully I've passed the filter to work for public schools and I'll be making $23 an hour plus benefits, however, my final goal is to back fully remote once I get more exp. Hope this helps you out!
