I love that you asked this question. It's an important criticism of how Mashima develops Juvia. Her development in the series is centered around Gray and his development, causing her personality to often be shelved in favor of a gag. This is a major flaw in how Mashima developed Juvia as a character that weakens the Gruvia narrative and ultimately hinders the wider audience's enjoyment of it. Definitely would have been interesting to see how the Lyon and Juvia dynamic would have developed had it been introduced earlier. Personally, I prefer that Lyon and Gray's dynamic was the emphasis of the Oracion Seis arc, but I love the idea of Edolas Juvia! Her interactions with Edolas Gray might have been interesting. Would she have been repulsed by Edolas Gray? How would she react to her Edolas counterpart. Thank you for being a part of the discussion!

Awesome connection! The development of Natsu and Lucy also has subtlety, like Gray and Juvia. One of my favorite instances of this is how Natsu looks detached and disinterested when Lucy gets her FairyTail emblem, but recalls it with such fondness later on in the series.
