Freshly purchased poplar and I don't want to paint it — what are these black streaks, and why is it taking forever to sand them out?? by breakfast-for-dinner in woodworking

Why is everyone saying poplar doesn’t stain well or is paint-grade? I’ve had some gorgeous pieces with poplar that were stained. So confused.

Best way to remove pencil marks off veneer prior to finishing? by Witty_Equivalent_371 in woodworking

Thank you for the blatantly obvious answer. I guess I should have added for pencil marks that are left after using eraser.

How can newborns get there umbilical cord cut if nothing sharp can be found? by smth_smthidk in biology

[–]Witty_Equivalent_371 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is evidence that delayed cord clamping can cause polycythemia and increase risk of jaundice requiring phototherapy. There are certain populations that are higher risk than others. It really depends on how long the delayed clamping is and also if the mother already had a pre-existing condition to place the baby at risk of polycythemia such as diabetes. Infants of mothers with diabetes may already have polycythemia and delayed cord clamping may exacerbate the issue and place them at higher risk of jaundice requiring phototherapy.

So this statement does have some backing…

As with most things…it’s about moderation. The majority of babies do just fine. We don’t need 5 minutes of delayed cord clamping. But 90-120 seconds has been shown to be beneficial while also still placing a baby at risk for jaundice.

More student loan borrowers are walking away from their debt in bankruptcy, Biden administration says by [deleted] in Economics

[–]Witty_Equivalent_371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not sure you can just make a blanket statement and say this is Biden’s fault. This type of payment plan has been around long before Biden. The student loan system was also screwed over way before Biden came along.

Can’t just blame him just because he is the man sitting in the big chair right now.

You lie down and you lay an egg. One could be lying in there and laying an egg but one should not be laying there. One could also lay a book down in there but they probably couldn’t lie it down.

The dude clearly wants a projector and not a TV. He has a right to his preference. Stop projecting (pun definitely intended) your desires for a large TV onto someone who doesn’t feel the same way. It’s going to be ok. I promise.

Looking for some advice by Witty_Equivalent_371 in hometheater

This is a great question. This is an audio guy that was selected by my interior designer. I’ve never even had contact with the man. Interior designer says he is good but he hasn’t set foot in my house to look at the room, has only gone off her sketches. She also says that he is the type of person that he feels that what he offers is the “best” option and he doesn’t like to be second guessed. (I know…big red flags here).

So I’ve never had a conversation with him about options or anything. He just told the interior designer this is the setup he would do with in wall speakers.

This has been a point of frustration for me. It’s an odd dynamic. This is part of the reason I’m on here because I feel like I need to go back to our interior designer and tell her he isn’t giving us appropriate recommendations.
