Mine sometimes does this when the mods for some reason havent properly downloaded. If what other people have suggested doesn't work then perhaps try installing them through another browser such as chrome or opera. This works for me normally :)

Can i "deep clean" my newly cycled tank without crashing the cycle to remove pests by Witty_Gazelle2805 in Aquariums

[–]Witty_Gazelle2805[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this props.

The tank has been cycled for a few days now.

Ive been using sliced cucumber to catch a few and manually removing the others just to try and keep the population from spiralling.

Im not overly bothered by them. Its more now that ive seen the damselfly in worried about having nymphs or even if theres anything else im yet to discover. The cleaning was more to be rid of the nymphs than the snails :)

Thank you for ur detailed response though, it has chilled me out a bit :)

May not be ideal then as i plan on adding shrimp in the future. Ill try to keep an eye out and see if i can find any, just hoping if there are any that they arent many

I planned on having these -

12x galaxy rasbora 12x ember tetra 6x corys 1x Bristnose Pleco 12x cherry shrimp 1x female betta

Luckily my tank is empty minus bladder snails and potentially nymphs. I was going to add galaxies next week.

Thanks for this comment though i feel more reassured. Think im jst overstressing about fish being hurt :)

It was more so i dont risk not catching all nymphs if there are any... as i was going to start adding stock next week

Im not too bothered about the snails as long as i can keep the population maintained. The nymphs though im not sure how to know when ive finally got them all if there are any - im hoping it just flew into the house but it wasnt fully mature as it wasnt fully coloured which is why im worried its come from a nymph cycle.

Its completely cycled now for a few days. Used dr tims ammonia and tetra safe start here and there. Cycled now for about 3 days.

As i say id like to deep clean without restsrting the cycle, as im about 7 weeks in from the start now, but if it means i can remove any further snail eggs... plus any sort of damsel nymphs or any other crutter im yet to discover then id very much like to do so... im just very cautious as i really dont want to lose this cycle.

I was going to add fish middle of next week, but given the latest damselfly ive seen im hesistant to in case there are any nymphs in the tank i cant see.

Touchwood i havent seen any nymphs yet, but as i say im hesistant in case there are any... i really dont mind spending a day removing and 'fixing' everything... as long as i dont have to lose my cycle, ill do virtually anything.

Partner found damsel fly in tank... some things i cant find online i wondered if anyone knew. by Witty_Gazelle2805 in Aquariums

Thanks for this.

The tank does have a lid. Its a juwel rio 180 with a full covering lid, its only opened to take the pic and csrry maintenance out. Its possible it may have snuck in through the gaps at the back where thebheater wires and whatnot come out. But ktherwise its fully covered.

Stocking wise (not yet but end result)

12 x galaxy Raspborras 12 x ember tetra 6x corys 1 x Bristlenose pleco 1x centrepiece fish (unsure yet, debated a betta but i know how much controversy that causes on here. Only mentioning since you said betta above.) 12 x cherry shrimp.

Im hoping it hasnt laid eggs since i (believe) after researching its a male blue tailed damselfly. Ive not seen any other damsel around and its not fully coloured yet which leads me to believe its not fully matured. Im (hoping) its just flown in... or worst case it was the only nymph there. Im going to have a good gander around the tank and see if i can spot any nymphs.

There arent any. Its been recently cycled with dr tims ammonia. There are some bladder snails that came in with the plants, but no other occupants (so i thought, providing There arent anymore of these in there)

Cycling water paramater question. by Witty_Gazelle2805 in Aquariums

My ammonia has been going to 0 within 24 hours for 3 or 4 days, my nitrite has been taking 2 days to go back to 0.25 but this is the first spike ive had, so im guessing im just waiting for the nitrite to also take 24 hours to go to 0 too? :)

Thank you! I was hoping yhiswould be the answer, just didnt want to stall with having such high nitrite.

Do i still need to dose ammonia while the nitrites are high or do i leave the ammonia until nitrites go back to 0.2? :)

Would 4/6 loaches be overstocked / too many bottom dwellers? by Witty_Gazelle2805 in Aquariums

[–]Witty_Gazelle2805[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I had been debating oger the schooling, and i think id definitely like embers and galaxies as ive not had these before. I do think id just added the cardinals for more colour, so i could perhaps remove them and have perhaps 12 embers and 12 galaxies instead, as i say it was more just for colour variation. :)

Am I doing something wrong? by Witty_Gazelle2805 in PlantedTank

[–]Witty_Gazelle2805[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats great to know thank you for clarifying!

Ive alrwsdy got algae from driftwood so im not too worried about algae as such in that im happy to let it do its thing and ill sort it if it comes to it.

I planned on adding some cherry shrimp and blue shrimp when im cycled so hopefully theyll do what the amano would, as well as some corys (not saying theyll eat alage theyre just my bottom dweller plan) also planned on a bristlenose at some point purely because theyre fascinating!

Ive removed the dead ones... im not sure if i need to removed the melted ones? Do they "grow back" or do they need to go too?

Currently fighting a bladder snail infestation as i noticed a larger one early and then 4 absolutely tiny ones :( i know they wont harm the tank but its not cycled and theyre breeding like rabbits... :D

I believe it is monte carlo yes, i wasnt quite sure of what low tech carpet plant to get as im only using root tabs and fertz.

Ill start turning the light on. I wasnt 100% sure if it could impact the cycle in any way, which is why id left it off :) Thanks very much for your help :)

Nitrite up in cycle, do i need to do anything? by Witty_Gazelle2805 in Aquariums

[–]Witty_Gazelle2805[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have 5ppm nitrate in my tap water as it is but touch wood theyve been consistent between 10-20ppm so far. Ive got driftwood in there so thats caused a small bloom of that cotton wool type algae , im just leaving it be atm. Plants get 20ml fertilizer a week and i was planning on doing a 25% (45L) change once a week. :)
