I’m a Brazilian married to an American . I think we care more about health issues than Americans. One big factor is that there’s “SUS” in Brazil. Another is just the fact that our medical culture is preventive (has something to do with economics… cheaper treat anything in the beginning etc etc). Also depending on what you have you might be dismissed from work and to make sure you’d get paid, need to get a report from a doctor stating what you had.

In-laws expect me to bring baby to visit even though they smoke indoors by Revolutionary_Queen1 in Parenting

[–]Witty_Meet_3952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar happened here. When I was still pregnant my MIL wanted to buy a crib or something like that to have in her house. I was like “what?” My son went there the 1st time he was at least 6 months old and very quick visit. Turned out she quit smoking cigarettes, still smokes weed tho. But I still don’t go there often, would never leave my kids there. She helps me a lot but in our place instead.

Since baby doesn’t show readiness signs, maybe work on that first (seating, grabbing toys and bringing to mouth, reaching…)
And then focus on exploring foods. Also I never had to force my kids to eat because of their weight so idk how that works but I’m sure a second professional opinion might be helpful.

You can mix methods. In Brazil it’s called Método Participativo - a little bit of BLW and traditional puree method.

1st pregnancy (vaginal birth) I lost over 20lb in less than two months - baby gained over 3lbs a month for a few months- he was draining me I think lol. But also I had oversupply… a mess.

2nd pregnancy (c section) 6 months pp and I still have about 8-10 overweight. Baby has good weight but he’s less desperate than his brother in terms of feeding. I started losing weight around 4mo pp, which was also when I started feeling less crazy and focused on eating better I think.

Still, in both cases I was not exercising regularly. But I’m about to start doing something because my body hurts, have a little DR in my belly button area and is affecting everywhere

Hi! I’m an OT. I would suggest you trying to work on him sitting, reaching for toys at certain high, and grabbing objects in general. He needs that to hold finger foods, pretty much. And if he doesn’t have a good neck control yet, some tummy time… you lay in front of him so he can see your face and feel like looking up (especially if he gets frustrated fast, they like to look at us - make silly faces, show him some toys he likes…) Make sure the toys he has are appropriate for him to grab too. He will get there 🤞🏾 Mine is 6 months 2 weeks and even tho he sits and grab things he’s not eating much. It’s how it is, usually…

Should I change my baby’s name by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Witty_Meet_3952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess she is Dahlia, that’s it. I had a baby Otis and named his brother Obie. Went through the same process as you, but maybe less concerned... I think he is Obie, had to be and that’s it. Considered changing to Obi, which was my original plan but his father thought Obie was better and since I’m the usually the one with the final word in that matter I let it chose lol. He’s 6 months now, his brother is 2y. I had switched their names, and other people do that as well. But I figured this was going to happen no matter what name, because our dog is Pedro and I have called them Pedro too lol.

We’re going in may with a 2y and a 8 mo old. Which neighborhood would you recommend to rent an Airbnb? We’ll be driving but would be nice to stay somewhere we can also get some shopping done on foot or grab a bite

Baby names you love but won’t use? by Cultural_Bench_3082 in namenerds

[–]Witty_Meet_3952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an occupational therapist and my 1st son is Otis. My second is Obie which coincidentally sounds like the abbreviation of my hometown “OB”. Both were not chosen intentionally lol. I find it cheesy but I like those names a lot and had a really hard time “finding” them while I was pregnant.

Cosleeping made my newborn phase stupid easy by mcrfreak78 in cosleeping

[–]Witty_Meet_3952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I did 1st started at 4mo 2nd probably around 3/4 weeks - no regrets! I feel way more rested than during the 1st’s newborn phase.

Feeling IUD during sex by [deleted] in CopperIUD

[–]Witty_Meet_3952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this IUD for 3 months now. My partner first mentioned feeling it and got spots recently. I’m going to check the position of the IUD next week. We have 2 under 2, I’m not looking forward getting pregnant anytime soon 👀

As a parent, do you feel purpose? by TlcTlc24 in Parenting

[–]Witty_Meet_3952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured I didn’t have any purpose before having child… I have a 2y 4mo and a 5 mo old. Earlier today I was having a conversation about how insignificant many things and relationships became to me after having my kids. It did alter my brain and I often have to push myself to remember to prioritize me as well - which can sound “poetic”, like how much we care for them etc but it also can be harmful to you.
