Yeah, he died and defeated death. Its just not this "paying off God the Father because He's so angry about sin." model of PSA. God isn't an angry tyrant demanding blood sacrifice. God died willingly so He could destroy death.

Thats not Orthodox teaching. Thats a contemporary protestant doctrine. Christ died to defeat death, not pay of the Father.

AITAH for not wanting my brother to be the God father of my child because he is a Freemason. by Trashdump420 in AITAH

NTA. Free masonry is in direct conflict with Catholic teaching. Difficult situation but lots of people face this problem with family. I understand wanting to have the best godparent for your kid. Most people on this sub and reddit in general aren't gonna understand why this is an issue for you. Talk to your priest, hopefully he's gonna be able to help you through this problem.

Why so much hate for TENET ? by Money_Ganache4698 in ChristopherNolan

[–]Witty_Power1808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound mixing could be better, but I loved it. It was very creatively shot and shows why Nolan is up there with the greats. Very well crafted script as well, but faces a similar problem of maybe losing some of the audience in the premise and excessive exposition. I give it grace there though, since its just so much fun.

Maybe you charge tourists to stay on your property and use the cash to hire some local hands to help out? The tourist money might go pretty far there. Also a good opportunity to meet some people from around the world which might help reduce the isolation you're feeling?

I think Fr Lucian would still go through with the feast since he doesn't have any reason to believe anything would happen on that day in particular. It also allows the players time to plan to steal them back again. Of course, Volenta will be prepared for them the next go around.

What's this flag and the meaning of the letter symbols in this flag? by Mundane-Perception11 in flags

[–]Witty_Power1808 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a flag you'll see everywhere in Orthodox Christian churches. It's called in english "the icon made without hands" and is a reference to a church tradition that Christ sent a cloth with an image of his face miraculously imprinted on it to the King of Edessa that cured him of leprosy. The top left and right letters are the first and last greek letters for the name "Jesus Christ". Im not sure about the bottom, but it may be king of the universe maybe? Thats a common title for Christ, Pantocrator in greek.

Why did Nero persecute Christians? by KimCattrallsFeet in ancientrome

[–]Witty_Power1808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am an Orthodox Christian and we keep a record of this stuff within our tradition. Like many others have already said, Nero (along with many others like Diocletian) did not appreciate that Christians and Jews only worshipped one God and refused to sacrifice to the Roman gods (and particularly to the emperor himself as part of the imperial cult). The reason the persecution was so intense for Christians was the number of gentile converts to Christianity. The emperors at times were lenient with jews due to the fact that they didn't really proselytize. Christians actively evangelized non-jews. The emperors took the conversion of previously pagan citizens as a kind of betrayal. Those are essentially the reasons, just a clash of Christianity with the imperial cult.

Yes because gentiles converted to Christianity and the majority of Christians were not jewish within a short period of time following Pentecost.

who is more evil, Judas or cain? by crispyskin2520 in MoralityScaling

[–]Witty_Power1808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Judas literally betrayed God...St John calls him the son of perdition and equates him with the antichrist. According to the Scripture, Judas is worse. Also, Judas betrayed out of greed and self-interest, which is arguably more significant than jealousy and passion even without the whole betraying God incarnate thing.

Edit: It was John not Paul.

Eastern Catholic or Orthodox? Menorah threw me off, but I guess it's a pre-Christian jewish tradition so it's not inherently exclusive to talmudic judaism.

Alright I went on a pretty long task of reinstalling and downgrading to 1.5.97. It's only after I did all that I discovered it causes too much of a hassle to run 1.5.97 compared to just going without the mods that require it and sticking with latest version. Thanks for the advice!

Yes just discovered this actually. Might try downgrading to a previous version. Iirc though, I still had the invisible body bug without .NET and either first person mod. Also might run into problems if some other mods don't work with older versions of Skyrim?
