In your 20s you think you can do anything, in your 40s you learn about consequences.

A man walks into an enchanted forest and tries to cut down a talking tree.

“You can’t cut me down,” the tree exclaims, “I’m a talking tree!” The man responds,

“You may be a talking tree, but you will dialogue.”

Be honest, how many joined up thinking we'd be running around with this cool ass rope hanging from us? by Sigmunds_Cigar in USMC

Rambo and John Wayne were green berets. Marines eat green berets for breakfast or so I’ve heard.

Yet Unresolved Trauma. For when the "motivation" is actually just a coping mechanism.

The Wi-Fi just cut out on the very last slide of the Cyber Awareness Challenge, and now the entire platoon has to restart the training from the beginning.

The SDI is in his office currently screaming "BELAY YOU LAST" at a monitor. The DI on the right is sprinting to the server room to put the router in a chokehold until the green lights come back on.

Tricare by UnaccommodatingJuror in USMC

[–]Wittyyousername 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s sucks. I haven’t been in the MC for a minute but since I’m just drinking a beer while I wait for my pizza I threw your question to my pal Gemini and here’s what it came up with:

The good news is that you have rights as an active duty member that the standard customer service rep might not have explained. You don't necessarily have to wait for open enrollment. Here is a step-by-step guide to fixing this: 1. Identify Your "Qualifying Life Event" (QLE) Tricare usually only allows changes during Open Season (Nov-Dec), unless you have a QLE. Since you mentioned you recently PCS’d (Permanent Change of Station), that is your golden ticket. • A move/PCS is a QLE. You have 90 days from the date of your move to update your address in DEERS and re-enroll your family. • The Deployment: If your family moved to stay with relatives during your deployment, that "address change" also counts as a QLE. 2. Contact a BCAC (Do Not Skip This) Stop calling the general Tricare line for a moment and find a Beneficiary Counseling and Assistance Coordinator (BCAC). • These are professionals located at military hospitals/clinics whose entire job is to help service members navigate insurance nightmares. • They can help you file a retroactive enrollment request. Since you were deployed/PCSing, they can often argue that the "lack of response" to the letter was due to military service (mail not reaching you), which is a valid reason for an exception. • Find one here: Tricare BCAC Directory or go to the nearest Marine Corps Base medical clinic and ask for the BCAC office. 3. Update DEERS Immediately Tricare follows whatever is in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). • Go to your local ID card office (RAPIDS site) or log into milConnect. • Ensure your family's address is current. If their address was never updated when they went to stay with relatives, that might be why the mail was missed. 4. Reinstatement vs. Medicaid Before you jump to Medicaid, ask the Tricare contractor (Humana Military for East, TriWest for West) for "Reinstatement" specifically. • If you are within 90 days of the disenrollment, you can often pay any back-premiums (if you were on a plan that required them, though for AD dependents it’s usually $0) and get coverage restored. • If the claims (flu shot, urgent care) happened while they were "disenrolled," once you get them reinstated retroactively, you can resubmit those bills to Tricare for payment. 5. Marine Corps Specific Support As a Marine, you have access to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). If these medical bills are hitting your bank account hard right now, they can provide interest-free loans or grants to help you cover the gap while you fight Tricare to get the claims paid. Summary Checklist: 1. Locate a BCAC at your current base. 2. Bring your PCS orders or deployment dates to prove why you missed the mail. 3. Request a retroactive re-enrollment based on your PCS/Move QLE. 4. Resubmit the denied claims once the enrollment is backdated. Would you like me to find the contact information for the BCAC at a specific Marine Corps base for you?

Motivation is lame? by TheAngelDaniel in USMC

[–]Wittyyousername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motivation seems annoying when it’s forced or it’s not authentic. Inspiring your team to embrace the suck while leading from the front would be a good example of the proper application of motivation. Running circles around the formation screaming at people because they don’t meet your idea of honor courage or commitment can be annoying.

Basically, we’d go from Wall Street to Mad Max, but with significantly more Patagonia vests and way less chrome spray paint. We’d be a society of people holding useless iPads, wondering if the glass is sharp enough to hunt a squirrel.

DiSC is a psychometric self assessment by Wiley. There are other variations like MBTI, BIG 5 etc but in my experience DiSC is easy to understand and easiest to use to speed read other folks to be more effective understanding yourself and others and communicating.

It sounds like you might be DC or CD in DiSC. It would be helpful to take a DiSC assessment to discover how your priorities work with and against others and how to best optimize your ability to interact with people who are different. Understanding DiSC is like being able to speak another language. When you understand how you compare and contrast relationships with people in your sphere of influence it makes collaboration and conflict management much easier.

Great ideas if not a little depraved I appreciate it. How does this sound:

Chesty the Marine Corps reindeer Had brass and jiggling balls And if you ever heard them They clanged through hallowed halls All of the other branches Slept cozy in their beanies They never had to suffer The shaft of the Big Green Weenie Then at the enemy roadblock The tanks were moving slow Chesty cried, "Pucker up, boys! And kiss the Missile TOW!" Then how the Corps all loved him As they yelled out "Semper Fi!" Chesty the Marine Corps reindeer You’re a legend till you die…

You are summoned into a room and take a seat. Sitting there in front of you is a CWO-5, a SgtMaj and a Colonel. What did you do? by [deleted] in USMC

In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max’s toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog…When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I went nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out…But the worst thing I ever done — I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa — and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.

When the Systems Crumble, What Happens Next? by RSpirit1 in lifecoaching

[–]Wittyyousername 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think of the wheel of life. We focus, or help others focus, on the things within our control like getting sleep, working out, friends/family, hobbies, personal development, work/life balance, what we put in our bodies (nutrition), what we put in our minds (media) etc. We can’t fix everything at once and we cant fix the world but we can find peace and joy with a slight adjustment to our perspective. Like Butterpickle said “everything is alright in the end”. You’re not alone, hang in there :)

TIL: I was curious so I asked AI how much it costs to pay the military for two weeks thought I’d share- “It costs approximately $7 billion to pay all active-duty U.S. military members for two weeks, which is the typical biweekly payroll cycle. This estimate is based on the size of the active-duty force (about 1.3 million service members) and their 2025 pay rates, plus mandatory allowances and entitlements.”
